I have been to Cancun about eight times and have never found a good pharmacia. The problem is that Cancun is the most popular, and therefore, Americanized resort there is in Mexico. You can even drink the tap water there without getting sick. Pesos are not even needed there; they prefer American dollars.
Try the smaller towns further south. There is a pharmacia in Playa del Carmen where you could get about anything two years ago.
As far the Pacific side of Mexico, you can get good painkillers in Puerto Vallarta without a prescription.
Just ask the cab driver. They always get a kickback from the pharmacia. Worst case scenario, they will take you to a Dr. where you will pay $35 American dollars for him to write a script for whatever you want.
