The MAJOR difference between tussionex and other cough suppressants containing hydrocodone, is that tussionex is time released, designed to give 12 hours of relief. This is whay there is more mg per teaspoon it enters the bloodstream a lot more slowly. For bad coughs this medication is THE BOMB, especially if you find yourself coughing all night long, or only getting 4-5 hours of relief from other meds. In my experience, if you're truely coughing up a storm, Dr's don't seem to have a problem with writing a script for this. Also, a wonderful side effect is that it works great for pain, it's too bad Dr's won't RX it for that purpose, because it greatly reduces the number of doses one has to take.
