Itching on one side of the body
      #99167 - 09/10/03 03:54 AM

Does anyone have any idea what could cause one sided itching? Yesterday I started itching on the left side of the top of my head, then it went down to my left eye and left side of my face and then down to the left side of my chest. I did a search and can't come up with anything and it's still doing it today. One sided nervousness maybe? LOL It's got me baffled. I know it's not a serious issue or anything but it's just so irritating.
Thanks in advance!

I am definitly no Dr. but maybe shingles??? They are most always on one side of the body, usually on the trunk of your mid section though. Look into it. Don't take my guess to the bank, but just want to help!

Do you take hydro, Jordan? It's a common side effect, not necessarily one side- but for me? When I take it, my nose ALWAYS itches- badly! Sometimes to the point that if I can't force myself to not itch it, I'll give my nose an ouwie lol.

Legit, you know I'm 'odd' anyway, so I guess a little 'one sided itching' really isn't that strange for me.

Leigh and Greycie (I'm sorry, I can't remember who asked which question but) yes, I do take hydro but I've been taking it for quite awhile now and it's never made me itch like that before.... but I guess anything is possible. I did see during a search about shingles being on one side of the body, but it gave a totally different description than the way I'm itching. Hopefully it's nothing, maybe just nerves, but if it keeps up I will ask my Dr.
Thanks guys!!

I have ALWAYS itched when on hydro- when I take enough to knock out the pain- though, again, it starts with my nose When I upped the dose I was taking, I started itching on my nose, then my legs, then my chest- just weird stuff. My boyfriend at the time did some research and found that's a normal vascular reaction when you take a high dose of hydro. However, not knowing if you've upped your dose recently, I couldn't say- but wouldn't that be a nice relief to know? Anyhow, hope you don't have shingles, I've also heard that appears rash-like and can become very painful. Best of luck!

Ok.... so I'm not alone on the nose itching deal..... that has always happend to me, usally right after I eat, the very tip of my nose starts to itch, once in a great while it will be my legs or my side, and if you read the reaction part of the lit. that comes with your meds, you will see that itching is one of the side effects, now it can happen most of the time, some of the time, or just once, I think it has something to do with a food enzyme, and when the combination occurs, the itching starts, and I know..... it's nerve racking!!!!

Hey Jordan:

Have to agree with LeighA here. My best educated guess is shingles also. Often strikes just one side of the body...

Shingles is usually accompanied with pustules and a low grade fever, and nerve pain. (I think)

That's what I read about shingles too and thankfully I don't have any of that. My itching seems much better today (knock on wood) so I think in my case it was probably just nerves. Thanks for all or the replies though. It did have me alittle worried because of the one sided thing.
