Damaged Meds!!!
      #97610 - 09/03/03 06:31 AM

Has anyone ever had an order come all smashed up? Woodys sent my neighbors order out and the bottle was all smashed inside the fedex package. They said to send "EVERYTHING"back as she recieved it. What should she do.?? Mine is due for shipping this week!! They really should put them in a box.....!!

Yes, most OP's either wrap the bottle in bubble or put them in a box because it isn't a gentle journey these packages take. I and some others had this problem when using a service that used Pharmanet. Pharmanet, as I understand it, has ceased to exist. In my case only a few pills arrived broken. If most or all of your neighbors pills are smashed up to the point that they cannot be taken then I would send them back and insist that they package the next shipment properly and ship it back to you free of charge.

I'm going on some poor memory here, but I thought it was illegal (by Federal Law - no, I cannot quote the law) for a pharmacy to have you ship back meds (or for the customer to ship back the meds? Or both?).

Can anyone confirm or deny the legality of this? Just curious. Slap me around if I'm totally wrong.

Personally, I would work with Woody (the law be damned!) to get my meds. If this IS illegal, though, I am surprised that Woody is doing it, since he seems to run a straight business.

I don't think "returning" meds and "shipping" them are the dame, but I could be wrong.

You may sample one or two to make sure the quality was not effected during shipment.

I have recieved packages from Fedex and UPS before that have distinct and clearly identifiable tire marks across them. I don't know whats going on but it is not just a freak accurence it has happend several times. As far as shipping your meds back that is not illegal. It would be illegal for the pharmacy to reuse them once you sent them back. I think Woody's just wants to be sure that everything is on the up and up and that you are not trying to get an extra refill.

Smack.

It would be illegal for a pharmacy to resell returned medicine. Otherwise, it is no more illegal to return medicine in furtherance of a replacement or a refund than it is for them ship it to you in the first place. However, most OPs do not like dealing with returns, and as such, take artistic license with FAQ wording. For example, they will tell you it's illegal to return meds without specifying why, knowing full well it only applies to resale while implying it applies across the board. A sin of omission it is.

I would take a few of them out and mash up some of the others, just to be even with them for giving you this hassle. A horrible person I am, I know.

Some of my shipments haven't looked so good but I have never had a problem with them being smashed.
I think it is just CRAZY for a shipping copany to drive over them with tire tracks left! I would ask them next time WHY they look like that!
Putting them in boxes would cost even more money to ship!
I am sorry this happened. If, only IF, you really need some relief, explain that to Woody and ask him if you can take out a wee bit of crumbles to help your pain. Otherwise, I wouldn't mess with anything inside that bottle or they will think you are doing something off the wall (replacing half with crushed tylenol). KWIM???
IMO, Woodys is the BEST pharmacy I have ever dealt with.

And my vote is that if they're truly in that bad of shape, do as they requested and return them ALL as you received them. Don't ask if you can just take a couple, but that's just my opinion. If they're not in that bad of shape, then it's not a big enough deal to send them back. Again, just my opinion.

I just want to add that if they are damaged very badly, then go ahead and return BUT, if you need a few that are not damaged, write Woody's a note explaining that you were out and took XX # of pills, I doubt they would throw a fit and they would just short your order by the amount that you kept. it shows honesty on your part and that should be well recieved by Woody's.

On another note, I like the way United send there's by rolling the package up. It's always arrived without a problem. In fact, I have only ever had 1 package where the bottle came open and a few had spilled but were not damaged and that must be out of #100 or more arrivals!

They were mostly all crushed....Maybe 20 out of 120 that were whole. There were some big pieces, but mostly yellow powder. The problem was that she wouldn't have had any meds if she sent them back, and who knows what would have happened. She kept them, and is now kicking herself. How can you piece together 120 Norcos??? Mine should come today...I hope I don't have the same problem...Thanks for the advice...I bet no one would have given up all their meds, and wait a week to see what would happen....especially if you were all out....put yourself in her shoes!!!

Angelrat - Ah, that's where I got that (dis)information. I must have read and naively believed the OPs FAQ. Yeah, what you said seems correct.

Personally, I would have kept the 20 that were NOT smashed and sent the rest back with a note saying I kept the 20 that werent smashed, because I was out of medicine.. Woodys is a GOOD pharmacy, and would have understood. They also would have shipped them back and paid the fee for the shipping. Im sure if she over nighted them to the pharmacy, they would have done the same for her.

I received mine from Woodys yesterday. They DO come Via UPS not fedex, & they have always put them in the card board envelope, then the bubble one.
I have never had a problem with them. I have a friend that was shrted 6 meds from them ONE time and they (woodys) overnighted them the 6 pills as soon as they heard about it, so Im POSITIVE they would have over nighted #100, and if truth be known they would have probably just given her the entire script (120) just for having to go through that MESS!!

Should have sent them back. JMHO anyway!!!

BTW: how did you fair on your order today? Just curious if they were on time and intact!??

I feel so alone, it seems several people know people who order online and use the same OP and know what the contents look like. I don't know anyone who even orders online and yes, some have pain problems. How 100 pills could be turned into powder is beyond me. If you took a hammer to a similar size pill or any pill like excedrin, it shatters into several pieces. To have 20 survive intact or partially impact makes no sense. Don't confuse my confusion that this story isn't true. I bet you could drop a 100 pound box on the bottle and the bottle probably would just crack, it has cotton that protects it as well as conceals the rattling. To the poster that started this thread, its one in a million that you would receive your pills the same way. IF you are receiving yours soon and your friend is going to get it back intact within a week, I am sure you could work something out as you wouldn't take 120 in a week. I am not outright saying share medicine because you can't do that. As far as the law for returning medication, it was originally drafted before sale via mail. Once you buy it, you can not return it locally even if you didnt take any. Refunds are 99.99% unlikely. If you receive the wrong meds, the pharmacy is required to give you the correct meds and DESTROY the pills they originally gave you. In this thread they mentioned you can not resell medicine which is true, but it would be unlikely Woodys would send powder to someone else. If you order online and get the wrong medicine as well, you can ship it back untouched and the pharmacy is to destroy it and send the right one out. I don't think any pharmacy would try to resell returned medicine because the receiver could have tampered with the pills like the tylenol and excedrin situations and these pills are like $10 for them. I do agree about returning medicine to get replacement ones of the same kind. I don't know how they get around the legality of it. I think the law was made because people could return medicine for refunds and tamper with that medicine and the pharmacy would be forced to destroy them. I am surprised your friend didnt feel the package as it would be totally flat if it was powder. There are websites that sell ultram and other nonscheduled drugs who will refund 50% of the price if you return it unopened from the fedex envelope and the bottle was never touched. So who knows

I agree with this - honesty is the best policy! Besides, if you think about it, they could take 90 whole ones and weigh them, and then weigh all the crumbles/powder, and be able to tell how much was taken from them before the return...
