Am I tapering too much too soon?????
      #98210 - 09/05/03 02:02 PM

Hello. I am beging a taper from Klonopin. I have gone from 2.5mg a day for several months to yesterday 1.5 and today also 1.5. I feel nervous, weird, and my stomach is in a bad way. I finally got a script from my doctor for 60 .50 tabs and I have 30 2 mg tabs left from OLS4U. I think my doctor is ok with me staying on .50mg twice a day but he doesnt know how much I was taking. Any advice on a slower taper while making my meds last? PLease HELP. Also I would like to find a reliable source for some back up meds from an IOP.....any advice since all the good sites are gone?

You could be tapering too soon, or it could just be psycho-somatic (fake symptoms in your mind).

For a taper, you usually cut the medication by 1/4 each three days....for instance, you take 4 mgs per day. The next day, take 3mgs...do that for THREE days at least. Then move onto working gradually down to where you want to be. Give your body some time to adjust.

Klonopin has a longer half life, so tapering isn't difficult, just try to space your meds and you should be okay.

BUT, I also take Zyprexa, which I am not suggesting unless you have Bipolar Mania, but that cures any and all w/d symptoms from tapering.

Good luck!!

Whoops...I also wanted to mention that Access-Meds are a great resource for Klonopin (Rivotril). I have used them twice and they were great.

That's far too fast a taper, IME. Slow is the key when tapering from benzos. Search the web, read the FAQ at http://www.sleepnet.com/insomnia9/messages/512.html . Be careful, seuzures suck.

If I read your post correctly, you tapered from 2.5 to 1.5 in a day. Yep you will have withdrawls. That is what you are experiencing. Try to taper .25 every three or four days and see if that does not help with the symptions. It certainly will not be pleasant either way, but could be better for you. Good luck.
