I just received my first letter from FDA informing me that a package was being detained at the post office at their request. I've gotten customs letters in the past but never one from them. Is this better or worse than the customs letter? I plan on ignoring it but would like to know if there are any potential problems for me because of this. Thanks.

WHAT PROBLEMS COULD THERE BE? YOU, AFTER ALL, DID NOT ORDER ANYTHING AND HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE MISTAKES MADE BY SENDER OR THE POST OFFICE. STICK TO IT......ALWAYS

I've never heard of the post office holding on to a package, unless they thought it was a bomb, or bio warfare. This is interesting, Ive got certified customs letters, and regular, but have never had my local PO contact the FDA regarding a parcel.
Phoebe do I understand you correctly your PO contacted the FDA about a parcel.

Sounds like a workable plan. I hope it satisfies the drug nazis that are pestering Phoebe. This whole "Patriot Act" stuff creeps me out. I heard an interview on the radio yesterday with the director of the FBI & he was proudly talking about how they can now track what book private citizens check out of the library. He said that that was one of the ways they caught the Unibomber. Hmm, I thought the Unibomber's brother turned him in. Plus, they can track your internet use if you use library computers.

I'm don't think that the detainment came from my local PO.
The letter stated that a "mail shipment addressed to me from a foreign country is being held by the post office at the request of the FDA". The letter was issued from the San Francisco FDA office.

About 2 months ago I got a certified letter from the US customs. Now why would I go to the PO and give my ID, to pick up a letter from US customs, why would they send certified, except maybe to get my name and drivers licence #.
Maybe US customs/ FDA are attempting to compile a list of who buys what, or maybe a list for the local authoritys. I know I'm paranoid, but what other purpose could this serve?

I feel that the ops in the Philapines, Thialand, or India tend to get flagged quite often. I avoid those places for that reason and have recieved all but one of my orders with no problems.
Is your letter a standard customs letter? That is what it sounds like. It usually will tell you what is being detained and why. If anything bad was going to come of this, I think you would have been visited. So I would just chill and toss the letter like the rest of them.

I've gotten standard customs letters before....this is completely different. It is from the FDA and states, among other things, that "this notice does not in any manner accuse you of voilating any law"....how weird it that?!?

Yea, I got one of those saying that what I had ordered was not FDA approved. Of all things, I never got my order of nurofen plus and never heard from them again.
