Should I refill my Hydro's?
      #97648 - 09/03/03 12:29 PM

I just wanted to ask a question. I have stopped my hydro cold turkey and plan on staying off it as long as I can control my pain with the Ultram and Tylenol. However, I still have refills left at my OP. When they come due and if I have the money, should I continue to refill them? Or should I just stop my refills? I know they would be good to keep around for future pain, but what if something happened and someone found 1XX tabs of hydro leftover in my medicine cabinet that aren’t being used, wouldn’t that look suspicious? I don’t know why, but I get scared enough ordering from my current OP even though I do have legitimate records and legitimate pain and it’s not illegal. Anyone else feel this way? Is it b/c our gov’t makes legitimate chronic pain suffers feel like drug seekers? Anyways, just wanted to get your thoughts on refills.

This is just my opinion, but I know a lot of people that keep meds stored up for just in case. This is especially common in older people. I have quite a few relatives that have a cabinent full of meds...I guess they just get them automatically. Like one inlaw of mine had four different bottle of darvocet. I don't think that looks suspicious, in fact I percieved the opposite, because she had so many, she obviously wasn't taking a lot of them at a time. I don't think that there is against hoarding as long as the prescription is legit. Good Luck with the whole thing. I'm in way too much pain right to think about quitting totally, but at least my tolerance should be a little bit better.

To me, it's not such an issue of someone else finding it; it's a legit prescription as far as they're concerned, it's not like you have a cellophane baggie of pills. I think it's more of an issue, do you have the willpower to resist taking them later and ending up where you were before?

I believe refills for a schedule III expire in 6 months. So, you've got some time to decide, but you never know when there's going to be some extremely painful day...then again, one little relapse tends to mature into a full-fledged habit. Please be careful.

I personally would refill it just to have, but that's a decision you have to make based on your likelihood to take it when you might want a little extra than ultram and tylenol can give.

i agree with yakaw completely. If you think its a good idea to refill and that you can handle it then you should. As for the dea, as long as you are using a us op I wouldn't worry about it. The law says it is legal for you to use online doctors and that is what you are doing. If they came knocking at your door (unlikely) you would show them your records and tell them that you spoke with your doctor and sent him your records and he prescribed the meds for you. It is perfectly legal (for the time being) and I think that it is time that we all started treating ourselves like it was. Of course, only if you are using a legitimate US OP and not an international one.

You are doing great Hottie. I am proud of you and don't want you to do anything that might make you step off your chosen path if you don't need to. Take care and be happy.

Well I would stay off if I could, I thought you said in your other post about the hydro holiday tht you had a shipment coming that was due for friday but didn't get it so you figured you would get that this week. I would just keep that on hand and not order any more if I could help it. Keep that one tucked away for desperate times. YOu can also refill any time ya want to it doesn't have to be within the 30 days.

yes, grab a safe deposit box and put 'em in there. You don't know what is going on yet...if it turns out you are free and clear...great, if not; why start on the go-round again?

Thanks everyone for your posts and replies. Yes, I started tapering a little over a week ago and went cold turkey on Monday and then ended up still taking a few hydro's here and there over the past couple of days just b/c the Ultram and Ibuprofen wasn't cutting it. Still no w/d sx's and don't feel at the moment like I could relapse b/c the pain is slowly starting to go away more with each day my period slows. So, I guess, I will keep my refills up and then store them away for the future. I've never had a history of addiction or anything in the past, heck I dont even drink alcohol, so I don't think a relapse or starting again will be a problem unless I have some type of injury requiring me to use them. I don't think I ever had an 'addiction' before, but, I was scared I was heading that direction simply b/c I started noticing a craving for the hydro when the Ultram seemed to work. SO, I decided this past 5 day weekend off from work was a perfect time to stop the hydro as long as the Ultram worked. Let's just hope the Ultram will continue to control the pain and I won't need the hydro again. At least if I do, I'll have plenty in supply. Thanks again for the support and advice, you all are each invaluable in the struggle with this pain management.

I'm so happy I found a place where people actually understand and know how I feel and support me instead of looking at me like I'm a drug seeker. You all give me so much more strength than you know

Hottie, I know just how you feel. Hang in there and don't give up. But, if you do, that's ok too. It's not an easy road to travel, but it can be done.
