Since I started my disability thread on the free board, I only feel its fair to share with all you well wishers, supporters, and fantastic people, that I have been approved for Complete Medicaid Coverage and Cash Disability Assistance
I'm also getting a back-pay check for $345 because I was already eligible in June. I'll get $115 dollars per month therafter. My state's Medicaid covers a wide range of extra services beyond the federal requirements and I live just a few blocks from an enormous university hospital complex, so it should be east to receive care with just the Medicaid coverage than if I were to have to seek out private practice. My ortho doc of the past 2 years from the student health center will be relieved because he can finally refer me to a real PM doc.
I just called my mother, I'm going to write my father. I almost want to e-mail my caseworker, but I bet he knows.
Today I have to turn in my my SSI application and that is a different story, but TODAY! I am the luckiest woman in the world! I thanked th manwho called profusely over and over, as well as thanking a God of uncertain origin and told him he saved my life.

GREAT! I was going to say 'congratulations', but this is something you deserve! I'm just glad you didn't have to go through what some other posters have had to go through to get it. And, you're well on your way to the SSI. I know once you get "in the door" so to speak, it's easier to get assistance from other places too.
When both of us were jobless, the kids qualified for Medicaid. That also allowed us to get a reduced rate on our electric bill. Look into things like that also to help you out!
I'm very happy for you hon!

Yay Toe!! I know it's been a rough ride and I also know it's not over yet. I'm glad you have found some assistance; that in itself can help reduce some of the symptoms of your daily health issues.
I'm working on the settlement from a car wreck 3 years ago; I was only approved for SSDI because of the car wreck, but I'm just days from losing my house--it's been awful, so I know what you've gone through. I wasn't able to read/respond to the SSI thread because of the frustration and anger the system evokes in me.
Good luck and good health! Keep up on the paperwork and remember, make copies! Lots of them!

That is wonderful news and I am so happy at the thought of how at ease your mind must be right now. You deserve it!
This post also brings me a measure of optimism. I have long thought about inquiring as to how you go about something like this if you suffer from such rampant anxiety/agoraphobia and the like that even a trip to the local market - where I've been going for eons and know them like family - is as hard as prepping for final exams or a root canal! I haven't even started any studying on this. In a way, I feel guilty at the thought. But you know, and I know peeps here can understand, that often these type maladies can be every bit as crippling and handicapping as a physical injury/condition.
Sorry to hijack your thread. Once again, congrats and I am truly happy to have read this post.

yes and with medicaid you can get a reduced rate phone bill through SBC i know for sure, maybe others, and most energy places will discount your electric bill. so theres something to think about. you can get alot of assistance to help your money go further from companies once you receive SSI, medicaid, or both. some places even offer discounts on your place of living rent or payment.
