Dosage of Opiates and Weight?

Does anyone know if hydro/ultram or other opiates are based on the person’s weight or does that have anything to do with the prescribed does?

I think so...when I would visit my local doctor he never wanted to give me anymore than darvocet or vicodin 500 (I weigh 115lbs.), yet my boyfriend would get prescribed 7.5's or stronger (170lbs.), but, it probably also depends on the doctor amongst other factors.

I think that the dosage has more to do with the level of pain that you are in than anything else from my experience. Following my car accident, the emergency room physician gave me lortab 10's and Soma 350 mg to take for pain (I am 125 pounds). My husband and I moved out of state shortly thereafter and once I found a physician in Ohio, he prescribed me the same amount...and later my pain management doctor. Alternatively, my husband had his appendix removed 2 years ago and was only given vicodin (7.5's and only 20 at that). I suppose it also depends on the prescribing physician too and what you indicate your level of pain to be (mine is usually an 8 or 9 on a scale of 1 to 10).
