You can go "My computer" and then go to the control panel and then internet options. You can delete temporary internet files there and also Clear history. Make sure you have your passwords wrote down if you clear your cookies from there. Put days to be kept in history at 0.
That should work but if not check this page here. If that address bar contents doesn't leave, I am not sure what version of explorer you have so use this page if other step doesn't clear that. You do need to delete temp internet files anyway.

Same theory, different route- when your IExplorer is open, go to toos, then internet options- from that page, about half the way down if you select, "clear history" it will delete the address line history Also, to delete the temporary files, same thing, only instead of "Clear History" select "Settings" and then "View Files" and then hold down "Ctrl" and "A" at the same time- this will highlight all files in that folder. At the point they're all highlighted, hit the delete button- does the job

There's a neat little piece of software called "window washer" that I have been using for almost a year now. It cleans your cookies, browser, history and anything else you can think of with just once click of your mouse.
Go to CNET.com and click on downloads. When you get there, search for "window washer" and you will be directed to the site where you can download it from. It's free to try for 30 days but send me a pm and I'll tell you how to run it forever and what options to check to make your computer squeaky clean
I used this software on my mom's 2 year old computer because she said it was just running too slow. She had never cleaned out her cookies, etc and when I ran window washer, it took almost 2 hours to clear out old garbage, but when we got done, we had recovered 900 megabytes on her hard drive and it ran as fast as it did when she first bought it

You might want to disable the autocomplete function.
I believe this is in IE/internet options/advanced tab.

This will work too. You can read other's opinions on it. User-friendly:

I use Evidence Eliminator which will re-write garbage/clean Hex over the HD 'space' to DOD standards. I like being careful
