Hiya,
I get Norco prescribed to me for pain. I had recently gotten a nasty cold, which has morphed into an annoying cough. I'd like to order a cough syrup for this, but I assume a hydro cough syrup is out of the question, right? If I ordered some codeine cough syrup, that wouldn't be double-dipping would it? I'm aware they're both opiates, but they're two different chemicals. Then again, it's not gonna be as effective as hydro, but I'm sure that's out of the question- even though what I take is hydro + apap, and what I'd be ordering would be hydro + some antihistamine.
Anyone have experience with this? If a hydro cough syrup would not be legally possible- can anyone recommend a good price on an effective codeine cough syrup?
Thanks,

I don't know if it would be considered double dipping, but since hydrocodone is the active ingredient in both the pill form and the cough medicine, I would think that the pills would pretty much do the same thing as the syrup in suppressing the cough. Ever think about that?

Yeah moonbeam, it's just that I don't want to take extra hydro than I have to from my pill supply (which is getting to be inadequate anyway- I'm going to need 120 on my next consult, which is a refill away). That's why I was wondering about the hydro cough syrup thing, and if not, if the codeine would be legal.

Hey yaw, hopefully this helps- my doc gave me my regular Rx for hydro. and then I got a nasty cold and called and told them that I wanted hycodan on account of it seemed silly to take my hydro. pills that are suppose to be for my back pain to help me breathe at night. He did not have any qualms giving me that Rx and the refill I asked for when that was gone! I don't *think* it's double dipping- because they're for 2 totally unrelated issues and treat totally unrelated issues. Though, one could say the same for getting hydro. for your back and then hydro. for your knee- not the same- it's for the cough. I'd ask. But, I think you'll be safe- just don't try being sneaky about it- that's where a problem would most likely arise, I'd bet

As far as OP's go, most will NOT RX Hydro and Tussonex/Hycodan at the same time as they are both hydrocodone.

If you want to take the chance with the syrup, the tussionex is the BEST, but VERY expensive. The reason is, that it is suspended and time released so you get a FULL 12 hours of cough relief. The bonus is that it's excellent for pain relief as well, better than hydro/apap, again because of the time release property, IMO. Could you get an RX for the syrup from your DR? My experience is that DR's don't have a problem with writing a script for a few days of tussionex, particularly if you're having trouble sleeping.
