Hello,
I was prescribed percocet for pain and was wondering if anyone knows about withdrawl. I was only taking as needed for about 3 weeks. The past week I have been taking one 10/625( the big yellow one) per day. Should I decrese my dose or is it ok to stop abrubtly? I have read that percocet is very habit forming and I do not want to start a habit with this drug. My doctor gave me no warning on stopping this medication, he is on vacation and I need to stop taking it, my pain is decreasing day by day. However, I have noticed that when I do not take this medication I have muscle pain in my legs and back which I never had before. Any help would be great!!

I am going through Perc withdrawl right now as we speak. Get some Immodium AD and take a long hot bath along with 60 mgs of the AD. Take some Ibuprophin for the leg pain and a muscle relaxer or two if you have them. I can only hope my already late shipment will arrive today! Good luck.

Three weeks is a short time. Everyone reacts differently.
I'd try taking 0. If you absolutely can't get by on that, break them in half and work your way down.
If you aren't having physical withdrawal; diarrhea, nausea, chills, etc... then I would try to tough out the mental part of it.
Best of luck!
When I broke my hand I was given Vicodin...
I would take one before work "knowing" I would hurt later, well I noticed after awhile that I only hurt IF I took the Vicodin... funny how that worked. I quit taking it.
Sometimes...things aren't as they seem.
At any rate... if you are in pain, I am sorry your doc discontinued your treatment. You may want to try Aleve if you are able to take it safely or ibuprofren.

Your withdrawal after 3 weeks at 10 mg per day, assuming you didn't have any kind of opiate habit before, is not going to be much. You might feel a little mentally out of it the first three days, general feeling of uncomfortableness (is that a word?), and on day 3 (the worst day of opiate withdrawal) some diarrhea. Immodium'll help, so will a benzo or benadryl if you get insomnia. No need to taper, you'll be fine.
Now if you were taking more than 10 mg, you'd have a problem, although not nearly as big a problem as if you were taking them 3 mo's to a year. Beyond that, you've got a serious problem.
