Dumb question, but can you still buy it at your local pharmacy if you sign for it?

Nope, requires a doctors prescription as it is a schedule medication (SchII) in fact so it requires a triplicate script. Sorry to burst the bubble, but that is the law.

Dumb question? Dumb reply. Can you simply walk in and sign for a scheduled barbituate at your local Walgreens like your buying Ex-Lax? If so I would like the name of your pharmacist, as would many on this board.Jazz

Jazz:
You ONCE were able, about 20 years ago, to walk into your pharmacy and GET pheno. You would sign a log book with your name and address and signature. You also USED to be able to sign for cough medicine with codiene the SAME way.
That's a fact.

FYI, You can can still get Robitussin AC (cough syrup) in some NJ pharmacies. Totally at the discretion of the pharmacist.

Phenobarbital is highly lethal in large amounts (as are all barbituates) and is a commonly used drug for suicides. Abbey Hoffman and Mariel Hemingway both died from phenobarbital overdoses. Barbs are also highly addictive. Because of it's high lethality and addictive properties, doctors are wary of prescribing it. Although pheno is considered one of the 'safer' barbs due to it's slow acting nature, very few doctors will readily prescribe any pure barbituates. To put it in the same class as Robitussin with Codeine or to think one could simply sign for it without a script is naive.Jazz
