bad press for buymeds.com
      #91432 - 08/03/03 06:28 PM

OK - someone else posted about a news video at woodtv.com but when I went to the site, there was nothing. This is a pretty big story about being able to buy prescription drugs online without a prescription. It was to air on television thursday july 24th. I unfortunately missed it. I have since called the station and was informed the DEA told them not to put this story on their website. I would like to know more about this story if anyone has seen it b/c I use buymeds and am very worried about getting hasseled or worse. Please, any info

I wouldn't worry about any negative legal consequences - if Law Enforcement chooses to crack down on BuyMeds & similar sites (which is what DB'ers are concerned about after the story aired), it would be BuyMeds in legal hot water, not their customers.

Take care.

During the week just before that program aired (I missed it), specifically the week of July 14-18, I found it impossible to get the Buymeds site to function for my re-order. I also got a constant busy signal when I tried to get through to customer service. This really surprised me, as my first experience ordering with them had gone as well as anyone could expect, with the meds in my hand less than 24 hours after I ordered. (Finally I just gave up and ordered through Unityrx). Could this have had anything to do with this TV show? Others reported problems around the same time. Were they swamped with orders due to some advance publicity?

Just curious. I won't be trying their site again, as I was very pleased with
Unity, who filled for #90 vs Buymeds #60.

Anyone know how this TV show has affected Buymeds, or the other OP's??

I watched the program and although I personally haven't used Buymeds, I'm guessing the reason for the constant busy signal was Buymeds not wanting to take all those calls following the unwanted publicity...As far as the website being impossible to get through is proably because everybody that didn't know they could order these drugs, were online trying to get their orders in...

Marnie,

I originally posted the news video link on this site. It was really a ridiculous thing that WoodTV did. There are soooo many people just looking for hydro, etc. for recreational use and all this story did was gave them the websites to do it. I e-mailed the station to find out what happened to the link and they replied "It was removed from our site."

I saw the video after you put the link up. I wonder why they took it down? Two reasons come to mind:
1} The story did just the opposite of what it intended to do by showing sites that offer these drugs (which is how I originally found out about IOP's....a story on the Oreilly Factor about them..I was clueless until I saw that story)
2) Buymeds put the fear in God in them by the story insinuating that the meds were given out WITHOUT a script..they said this repeatedly, and it is NOT TRUE. A script is written by a lisenced physician, and sent to a pharmacy to be filled. The doctor-patient relationship with these OP's can be debated, but it is false to say that the meds are dispensed without a script.

At any rate, if anyone is going to experience some "heat" because of this, it will be the OP's, not the customers. The consumers are merely utilizing a service that at this point is apparently LEGAL..how long this will last is also debatable, but for now we have nothing to fear from the DEA.

Just a side note here....... the other day I watched a commercial on TV for an online pharmacy. Typical type ad you see here;" if you have records, a liscenced physician is waiting to give you and online consult from the comfort of your home"....... now is it me or is this company just really screwing things up for everyone here? If they knew what they were doing, they wouldn't need to advertise and it just seems like TV ads are doing nothing but speeding up the public outcry.

Its not so much the public outcry that will hurt OPs, but all it takes is on marginalized politician to take this on as the "Cause of the day to really screw things up. I think if the general public new much about the legitimate Ops they would be all for it. Anything that takes back even a small portion of our medical authority away from the industry well be applauded in general especially in the Senior Citizen world.
