help,blocking messenger and pop-ups ads
      #90505 - 07/29/03 11:56 PM

I recently posted on VIP board about blocking these annoying pop-ups, First off I have windows ME,on home computer, and XP, on laptop. Is there an area on these versions, that allow you to disable these ads? I have already downloaded POW, but didn't seem to work, still getting them along with he little mesenger service ads. As you can tell I'm very computer illiterate. I really appreciate all of the help so far,
This is driving
insane LOL
I have norton anti-virus on laptop, shouldn't it stop these??
Thanks Again, Terri

Any help would be appreciated

I am not sure, but they are a fairly new thing, and I HATE them. Every site I go to wants me to pay in order to have them stopped.

Thanks I am going to check out earthlink.

The latest Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer does a reasonable job too -- it says it's blocked 40 so far today and I don't recall seeing any. Another great freeware product that is probably available at download.com is Spybot. It really cleans out all the junk on webpages, which is reporting back to the website on your activities. Should even catch the FBI keyboard recorder

I agree about Earthlink. Plus, right now they are offering 6 months at $10.97 then the normal charge of $21.95 per month.
It screens your email too for spam and works great. Automatically puts spam into the trash folder.

Being with AOL for years, I'm glad I finally changed ISPs.
Earthlink is rated PCWORLD # 1 ISP for a few years now. Cool!
