Posting and PM Guidelines-Suggestion
      #81378 - 06/08/03 08:16 AM

This came from the an, uh, introduction in"Introductions". After my response I realized that the message would really do well in the "Welcome" page, since this is likely the first page that newbies look at. I considered the "Guidelines for Newbies" (I think it was posted by Legitimate) but considering that I can't even find it, I doubt that the folks who most need this information are ever going to see it. If this type ofinfo on posting, contributing, research and PMs is not already in a spot where newbies are almost forced to read it before starting. could it, or something similar, be put there?
I think we'd all be grateful to be saved from this behavior. So my suggestion is that this post be put somewhere people will see it.

Before deciding on an OP, I would take the others advice and compare the service, and prices by using the feedback forum.

Good Luck to you.

Terri

I would also add that the tow "who has it" fprums are the best for comparing prices and finding sources, but it doesn't give any feedback on whether the service is legit or has decent customer serivce.

So, after checking out those threads, then go look for recent reports in the USOP/IP forums to see what the lastest feedback on the OP's of you choice is. You may want to go back a couple of pages to see, since these threads multiply fast and topic that someone posted on 2 days ago may already be on the 3rd page.

For all other forums, where timeliness is NOT an issue, do a search. Set the time back to "all posts" and go ahead and search all forums. It if comes up with no results, try modifying your search terms. If it only comes up with searchs that are a few months old, I would reccomend you read them and, if you don't get your answer or get dated info, then you can start a new post. "Recent News about_____?" or the specific question that wasn't answered in your post. The only reason I reccomend making a new post on something that already has a post is that most people, when they seea topic with multiple replies, will answer only the first post, or two ro three folks get fairly off topic for and thread dies out of disgust.

Please don't PM inviduals with questions that just the littlest bit of reading and research can reveal. This weekend I have gotten a request for the prices at NWW, how much a consultation at NWW costs, how to read pharmakos' order sheet and why order 120 "brand name 1mg xanax" instead of 120 Gador brand 2mg alprazolam, even though I had explained it in my previous posts.

This is probably all on FAQ's for newbies, and from you intial post it's clear you realize how much information is available here. The folks that are sending me these posts don't take the time to read the board, and you seem pretty much on target about this community.

In short, we want you to contibute, but you need to do some work on your own, too. You can alwasy feel free to make a topic when the threads you have found in search contain no answer to your question (make sure your title expresses your exact question) or the topic doesn't show at all. And if you need the "latest" info on something and the last post was 6 weeks ago, you can certainly make a post about "Any Recent info on. . .?" And obviously you are welcome to reply to any post that intrigues you.

Dont' forget that dirty words are auto-censored to reaed Best if kept off the board, so using a less offensive term is always a good bet.

When a new member PMs me for info, I generally refer back to the merits of reading the board.
I will not in a PM divulge anything more personal than I would post to the public in most cases, as who knows who you are talking to? Especially a new person, who just registered the same day.

Just my take on it.

The really lazy one who pmed me was a longtime user, though. Just a lazy BIKOTB.

I'm am going to start just replying "check the boards" because it seems if I divulge any info, the keep writing back with these retarded answers.

Still, you know the folks that are too lazy to click on a link aren't going to bother looking into this forum.

Unfortunately, they often forget to say "Thank You",too.
This probably should not disturb me as much as it does, yet being raised in the old school,it does. We live in a world where lack of manners seem to be the rule and not the exception. Interjection of courtesy is always welcome.

Hey that reminds me, I've been meaning to ask: Where Can i Get The Oxycontin????

You know there should at least be a PUNCHLINE to that question, as there certainly is no actual practical ANSWER to be found in these parts. Too bad I left my sense of humor in my other jacket.

More or less back ON TOPIC , a couple of months ago I was flamed for my then-habit of suggesting new members posting certain type of questions should Use The Frigging Search Engine, or UTFSE . The point being made was that sometimes establishing a dialogue by asking and answering questions, even obvious ones, would be more valuable to everybody than simply pointing over there and saying 'Look it up". There's some truth to that, but knowing how to find your way around the Boards all by yourself is really ESSENTIAL , and INCREDIBLY REWARDING too . Often the answers are there, sometimes they are not, or they are old and out of date answers. That's when you post, Looking For Some Fresh Answers, (preferably blisterpacked and date stamped).

Personally I just love gettng all dusty digging around in the threads, I'm always learning something new. Always finding out just how much I don't know.

My standard response to that question is "ask your doc. if s/he thinks you need it, you'll get it".

They don't have to ask twice
