i think there should be a way , that everyone can only have 1 user name. I know peple that have 3 or 4 , and use this to credit their own selves . ( making themselves look asif they have credibility ) there was a thread on here ( since deleated ) that an individual was commenting how great his own posts were ( using a different name ) maybe if DB would use IP #s to pass out passwords, we could elimate some of the doubles around here

Good idea, in theory. The problem is that a lot of IPs aren't static, so there's not a good way to trace them with just an IP.
It's pretty easy to spot the alters, though, and people who are banned tend to get an alter very quickly. The way I see it, if one username doesn't work for a person, then maybe they need additional boards, friends, or shrinks ??

My understanding is that the IP addresses of members ARE logged, and that a banned member who re-registers with a different name will be banned again, unless they go to the trouble of setting up another compuiter and service providor. Somewhere in a guideline FAQ I remember it saying something about "if two members plan to share a computer, they will need to inform DB because otherwise DB will assume it's one person with two names who is up to no good and both members will be banned". Or something.

We only allow one username per person but this is not easy to enforce on the free board.
Your post is to general to help. If you are so sure... why not send a PM to the admin with the info and the usernames of the people doing it?
There is one easy way to solve the problem of visitors having more than one username and that is to charge for using the board.
We can enforce this rule on the VIP board and that is one of the reason the info on the VIP board tends to be more reliable.
About the missing post. Since the post that bothered you is no longer on the board we have to get some "credit" as most likely it has been detected by the moderators 
If you know of people using several usernames just let us know 
We need help  to enforce the rules.

yes DB - you do get credit for deleating the post. sometimes they are so obvious its funny. But i just thought you could track them thru IP #s . I see thats not the case. the only reason i said anything is so people notice that when someone seems really praised on here , theres usually a reason ( unless people are praising me - then its factual - lol ) JUST KIDDING!!!!

I remember when there was a member who had 2 different names and the same IP addy, DB can tell when someone is doing this but I think they have to scope it out to really know

We can try to match IP's but it is not easy and we do not do this unless we suspect something fishy is going on...
That is why we need member help. If you think a member is using more than one username to say good things, or bad things, about any listed site: just let us know and we will check it out.

There was an OP owner who came on the board posting as a 'customer' of his own OP. I followed him around the different forums and busted him on each one. I found this type of behaviour to be deceitful for our members and of course dishonest. All the posts were removed by DB,but the OP owner is still here posting under his real name.
I'm relieved others have found this type of fraud and other types and reported it.These posts are counter-productive to our forums and disrespectful of the members. You go DB!

in the DB rules , he should be banned then - for promoting another website . And hes still around???? Tell DB his handle and they will ban him ( well , i guess they would - cause that is against the rules )

Yes,he is still here. I was surprised myself,but DB must have had a 'chat' with him,because he hasn't attempted this self-promotion again.(got my good eye on him)

I, for one, know that credibility is built over years and years (in my profession). Credibility can be dashed in ONE (1) s***w up.

Good eyes, guys... it's true we have to take care of our board. It helps DB and that makes us want to return here more often. If the board is littered with crud and junk, then the needinfos and flippys and the others won't want to come play.

It is amazing to me that people have so little to do in their life that they would create 2 names for promotion, slander, and whatever else that they do. I think that it would be too confusing and time consuming, myself.

This is an issue I am struggling with now. Just who can you trust? I changed my user name cause I did not want my real name to be a part of my user name anymore because I am not sure who to trust anymore. I did get db's permission so I am not going under the radar so to speak. But a lot of folks do and go by numerous names. Why? To slander others or for sick jokes. If anyone has any perspective on this, I would love to hear it.

I noticed you changed your user name. Hey,you do what you have to do on the net to protect yourself. Way to go.
The OP owner I was referring to was Matthew Kellogg,or whatever his last name is,from NetPain. What a joke! I reported it to DB,also DB saw me calling him on every post and they were deleted. I tried to warn folks,but I was new,so I didnt have much creditability. Hope some listened.
I figure some cant handle self-medicating,come on here high,some are looking for trouble and others are just wacko.
No other reason I can imagine for behavior like that.
Another reason I trust the VIP,this kind of Best if kept off the board is easier to catch.DB does a great job,but with 10k plus members,they need our help,ya know. If we dont take care of our board....folks wont realize what they have until its gone.

THe board does need trust. I see this thread started a while back and I have read thru the whole thing. One name was mentioned and I had no idea that he was someone with more than one user name. This has opened my eyes and I feel I should be a bit more attentive to what I read. I appreciate threads like this, some of us do need a wake up call or something to tell us to "pay attention". I also am to trusting and have gotton burned badly in real life, you would think I would learn by now, especailly concidering this is a public message board. I do admire those with the finesse to read between the lines. Something I think I shall do more of or at least try to. Thanks for the words of wisdom here.

I use Sunztorm on the VIP board. Just saying that to let people know. Most of the older members know this, but many of the newer ones do not, and I changed my profile to remove that information.
I caught atleast one member by surprise and didn't really mean to.

I agree, qbird. I like how you saved the avatar, at least for a bit, so we can get used to your new name.
I've always used the same name, on the VIP board it's just Toky with no 20 after it. I only use one identity, I am only one person, with one subscription, and don't have time for multiples. But I do know that the behavior goes on, and it has clouded and ruined many a cyber-friendship.
I know I can trust all the older members (you grey hairs, you!! lol..) and am always happy to meet and get to know the newer members. When I find someone using multiples, I let DB know, just in case they are unaware. I do believe the rules state one name per person. And yes, getting hurt is one of the ways we learn. Unfortunately, it's harder online to know "who's who", but for the record, I'd like to say that I am me, Toky, and no one else is Toky, and I am no one else.
Geez I just confused myself!!
