War On Drugs
      #76756 - 05/16/03 02:47 AM

On the "registered mail" post below there were a lot of strong feeling about the War on Average Americans, I mean, the Ward on Drugs.

Minimal sentencing sends first time offenders, small time dealers of the illegal but relativly benign drugs like marihuana and LSD away for years.

State troopers and even local police pracitce "profiling" in finding their targets: VW Buses, Chevettes loaded down with surfboards, bumper stickers, the apperance of the driver herself if they can catch it on time. Theu police suspect, often rightly, that they will find a few joints in these cars. They lie to the inhabits to obtain search of the vehicle (Harriman, NY, Lebanon, MISSOURI) or simply carry out an illegal search (Nacogdoches TX). They will pull over a suspected pothead's vehicle without predecent ( some where S of Gary, IN on I-65, can't remember the city because they couldn't supply a charge for pulling me over)

And yet somehow I have friends who have gotten addicted to heroin, to diverted opiates, to alcohol, the crystal meth, creack.

While aren't *they* getting stopped in the street and offered to take a drive downtown because they have the gall to cross the street to get a burger and leave their ID at home? Why do I see a police car parked on one of the embankments at an intersection that divides the crack ghetto from the "nice side" and is pointed AWAY from side where the 5 $ blowjobs emaciated crackwhores offer to collect up enough to buy their next rock from the group of boys hanging out one block down?

I made up my mind that the drug nazis long ago decided they only had a generic "drug arrest quota" to fill. Now, are you going to go after a bunch of kids in a car listeing to Dead tunes or smoking dope or after the guys involved in big business, who tend to be packing, and are high enough to be paranoid even if they don't think they hear the cops?

Crack heads and dealers are messed up enough to carry guns.

You really can't say the same for most potheads and dealers.

Lesse, If I were de ossifer, it wouldn't take me long to figure out the safest way to fill my quota and make it home alive.

I've been around. I am still continually confused that I cannot just go out one day and do heavy manual labor and fine the next. I do not deny that there is a huge drug problem in the States.

The vilest violent drugs are OTC and fully approved: tobacco, alcohol, and ephedrine.
The vilest violent illegal drugs are ignored by LEO: crack and methamphetamine

Some folks say we should legalize it all and let Darwin sort 'em out. But that's kind of lazy approach to policy, isn't it?

I'm sure there are others who'd like to bring something in and I invite you here. . .be it about the injustice of diverters (the "chronic back pain patient" who sells 2/3 of his dilaudid each month to support his crack habit.

I think this whole thing is sick. It makes me sick that I even had to "borrow" some pills from one of my friends when I severely injured my back and didn't have any meds on hand.

Ah, a lotta things tick me off, but that can be another thread somewhere.

Toe, it would be hard to miss your frustration.

But isn't this also a type of illegal diversion?
