I just wanted to thank you for your post, I really appreciate th e advice! I ordered Stadol Nasal Spray from ERXonline today (1-21-03) it was $135.00 plus the $60.00 consultation fee. Hopefully it will arrive as promised.

I am a little confused about your suggestion to dilute the Stadol. Can I do this with the Nasal Spray? If so, how? If not would you reccomend I use only one spray in one nostril instead of one spray in each?
Thanks!
Allyson

Hi, Allyson~
Since you'll have only one bottle, I would recommend that you use a syringe to withdraw all of the Stadol from the bottle and place it into a clean, empty, very small glass bottle/vial which can be securely sealed. (make sure there is no Stadol in the tube running up to the sprayer lid) If you don't have anything like that, get a small bottle of generic saline nasal spray, empty it, and use it to store the Stadol. Then, draw up one cc of the Stadol from the storage bottle and return it to the original Stadal Nasal Spray bottle. Then fill the bottle with saline solution of the type I told you about (the kind used for rinsing contacts - absolutely plain saline). Put the sprayer lid back onto the bottle and make sure it is securely screwed down. Shake to mix well.

Use only ONE spray to begin with. Please make sure you are sitting down or lying down, as you don't know how you will react to this medication. Some people get nauseated, sweaty, and dizzy. However, absolutely nothing may happen to you in that regard. Then. . . wait. You will have to tailor your usage to yourself. For myself, I always diluted it at 4:1, so that I got four bottles of medicine (full up to the top) from one single bottle of undiluted medication. I used it for two years and a bit more, but never used it stronger than that. Be very careful how much you use and how often. It's a very small bottle, and it can be used up very quickly. I'm sure, at the price you paid for it, you don't want to waste it.
Good luck.

HI,
I never ceased to be amazed by these dorks whose 1st oath is "to do no harm". Apparently, "insult not the weak or infirm" wasn't in there. I don't know where u live, but living in Fresno for a couple of years has been a REAL eyeopener! The unemployment rate is about 15% and with it the crime. I can't understand why the docs think that Vico is such a big deal! My dentist gave my Oxycontin once. I wasn't thrilled with it pain-wise and the hassle to get a triplicate Rx filled was a pain too. They think Norco and Lortab are "exotic meds" here. I thought "exotic meds" were like fentanyl, morphine, demerol and some other stuff I probably have no idea exist. I wish we had more of a voice and situations like yours could be easily avoided. After gallbladder surgery, I asked the surgeon for lortab instead of the vico 5/500 because of the recent news about tylenol. He got a nasty look on his face like he suddenly smelled garbage and said," How do YOU know about an exotic med like that?!?!" If I hadn't felt guilty and ashamed as you did, I would have told him my dentist had given it to me. But I said I'd been doing research on the web for alternative meds to reg. hydro and stammered while I said it. HE proceded to give me a lecture on a paitent that had asked him in the ER for some med I'd never even heard of instead of morphine. "People who ask for pain meds by name are generally abusers," he said. I told him that if he felt uncomfortable writing a script for me, then not to trouble himself. (That was the G-rated version of what I was thinking in my tired head) "No, I'll give you a script for REGULAR VICODIN,"he said with a don't-bother-me again look. I had 1st thought I was in good hands with him because he looked like Scotty from the old Star Trek and we had discussed pain med options at our 1st consult where he seemed to be genuinely concerned about his patients' welfare and comfort. I have rambled on now, but I wanted to reply and tell you that u have nothing to feel ashamed about. You were demeaned and stripped of your dignity at that moment. Shame on him and the rest of these dorks that IMHO feel as though laypeople have stepped on their PERSONAL realm of medical knowledge. I don't know about u, but I got the impression from some of these docs that "the little people shouldn't even know the names of these drugs, let alone be asking for them by name." I've had a couple of bad experiences with nurses too. But, that's for another post. I feel badly for you and know just what it feels like. So what if we belong at Weenie Hut General? (from Spongebob) We're lucky enough to live in places that have these medicines and these ppl are acting like aghast gate-keepers to the treasure. They put on their pants/dresses the same way we do, so I don't see what the bigdeal is all about. Whe are the companies making these drugs if docs aren't prescribing them? Wow. I'll stop now.
Pick your dignity up and knock him upside his bloated head with it!
Aisha

I would like to thank you for taking the time to give me advice on using Stadol. I will certainly try your suggestion, especially as you said I paid alot of money and would rather use the least amount I need to get pain relief. Again I appreciate your help very much.

Thanks!
Allyson

Yep, this same situation happenned with my general practitioner and me over a year ago. He was a young doctor (just out of med school and about my age) and really just didn't want to prescribe meds to me. I told him that the tylenol 3 wasn't doing anything for me and he then referred me to a pain specialist. After seeing the pain specialist, I felt a sense of relief. They knew that I was in pain and weren't afraid to prescribe a hydrocodone 10/500 to me, as well as a muscle relaxer for back pain along with the epidurals (spinal blocks) I was receiving. I would give a pain specialist a try...atleast it is better than dealing with a g.p!! Good luck...I feel your pain, really!

You're more than welcome, Allyson. I've heard a lot of patients reporting terrible experiences with Stadol-NS, but it can work very well if you're careful. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions or comments.

Yeah. Well the pharmacist the other day told me I didn't have any more refills. I knew for a fact that I did. I argued w/him for an hour before he actually checked the paper files. Then he filled it and Never appologized .

IF you are faithful with Ice and glucosimine/condroitin, it really REALLY helps! I know it's on Pain meds, however, I hurt my neck really bad in a judo contest 10yrs ago. It still gives me troubble every so often. But If you apply Ice every .5hr and take 1500/1200 glucosimine/condroitin, 3X a day, it really helps! It' takes about 1 month to notice it but it really helps me!
