just rec'd call from a blocked number at 8 pm... saying they were doing a survey of houses in my area, he started asking if anyone in my household worked in the healthcare buisiness, or anything like that. I then asked who he was and who was the survey being sponsered from? he went around the question and didnt tell me. This makes me very paranoid, I am on the states DO NOT CALL LIST plus I have a telezapper. I saw another thread about calls from an american OP, but I only use overseas OP's. Should I begin to run away from the door when the mailman comes now, or anyone else for that matter????

Hi,...don't answer any questions on the phone...tell them to send you the servay through the mail and you will take a look at it and hang up...not sure what the heck that would be about...expecially if it was a "blocked" number..maybe someone was playing a joke on ya...not a funny one at that ..hope you did not say anything to this person..like I said...get it in writing..easy...good luck...

Sounds like you're being paranoid to me. If they were going to bust you they wouldn't be calling you and fishing for information and they'd probably be more hi-tech than to just use a cheap 'blocked' number. . More likely you'd hear a knock on the door just before it's kicked in and you're hauled off, that is IF you were worth their time and your 'crime' was big enough to warrant such attention. LEO isn't exactly known for being subtle... Most likely it WAS just some minimum-wage slave calling around & surveying people in your area. It's not uncommon for them to ask questions like "do you work in the healthcare business" if the survey is in regards to health issues or care. Don't run from your mailman when he comes, or anyone else for that matter. It may be crazy times but you DO still have rights.....

I gotta go with novashok88 on this one. LE isn't usually so subtle unless they are after a much, much bigger fish than someone who orders a few medicines through the mail.
My guess is that people who conduct telephone surveys are exempt from the do not call list. I'm pretty sure that here in Kansas, pollsters and not-for-profit charities are exempt from the do not call list law. If you're curious, check your state laws.
I think it's safe for you to relax a little.

· Calls considered political speech including fundraising and survey calls or research calls that do not include a solicitation.
· Calls by non-profit or charitable organizations.
· Calls to consumers with whom the company has an established business relationship.
These are not on the "Do Not Call Lists".
At home I have "Privacy Director". It answers the phone before I do, If they leave a name it will ring on my phone. Then I can choose to Speak with the person, Refuse call with message to remove from their lists, or Ignore call.

I have the same system on my phone, it works great! Calls from telemarketers are non-existent with this system.

Any legitimate surveyor MUST give the information of who he's working for, what their purpose is, where to find more information (as in supplying you with names, phone numbers, addresses), and where they got your name.
We don't have the Privacy Mgr here yet, so I use my caller ID and I just don't answer. As a matter of fact, I don't even have the ringers turned on, and I leave the computer on as much as possible because I am tired of telling the creditors every day how much money I don't have. They have some severe listening skills defecits.
Don't answer anything if you don't want to. I bet it was just a rookie telemarketer who didn't know what to say when confronted with "who are you?". It's awful to be a telemarketer.

Check your state's laws. You said you're on your state's "do not call list." There is no federal law on blocking telemarketers and no national list, but any telemarketer who belongs to the Direct Mail Marketing Association (DMMA) has agreed to honor your request for Do Not Call if you file it with the DMAA.
Survey calls are usually exempt. So are many fundraising calls.
*57 will sometimes be able to do a trace on their number even if they have tried to block it. Unfortunately, it costs (here) $1.25 a trace and the phone company will only look up the numbers after three successful traces. Any unwanted caller with three traces can (if you request) get a letter from the phone company saying that if they keep calling you their phone will be disconnected. That's the policy at Qwest. Your mileage may vary.

I also use this feature on my phone and it is great. However, it will only be activated if the incoming call is a blocked number, or an "unavailable" number which doesn't show up on your caller ID. So you do need to also have the caller ID on your phone as well. Dawnie

I still think it's easier and less expensive to just not answer the darn thing in the first place

Its available from Verizon as well...unfortunately my new local phone company doesn't offer it as an option nor do they offer call waiting with caller ID...I REALLY miss those options.
