Patient's right to place info in medical records
      #63926 - 03/14/03 09:16 AM

I had a doctor in my past place a letter in my medical records that I was seeking pain meds. this was in light of the fact that my mri and Xrays showed major damage to the spine and nerve. I am still dealing with the after effects.

I was told by a nurse to write a letter to my PCP and explain the episode with the surgone. Am I allowed to do this and what will it do to my recors?
The reason was it was dec 24 I was the last patient could,nt find a babysitter. my 2 kids were acting up (waith for sanata clause) doctor was impoatent annoyed with my cring kids

Any DB adviee or info would be greatly helpful!!!!!

This happened to me also, right before a surgery. My surgeon is out of town, and I called all week and got no response, so I went to my PCP for a prescription. The pharmacy thought they were real smart and called both physicians. Needless to say they were both mad, but I explained to them what happened and after seeing a psychiatrist and getting cleared from being an addict, my file is not tainted. I also wrote letters of disappointment to both doctors. Instead of just calling me asking me what was going on, they jumped to the wrong conclusion. What gets me is that they both knew I was in soooo much pain I was having to have surgery in two weeks. What we have to put up with!!! You might try some of these things and see if you can rectify things.

Ya know this is rediculous really..! you need a good compationate doc...my pcp said I was getting habitual on my record, I got copies of them and read it in there, and when I took it to my PMD he wasn't concerned about it...when you have the MRI, CTSCAN,MYLOGRAMS to prove your issues that there is a problem...sometimes I wish some of these doc's had a pain manangment problem..then they would be more compationate. Boo....sorry that happend but don't worry to much about it...
