Fred Rogers............aka..........."Mr Rogers" dead at age 74.
Most of us grew up with him...........made jokes about him..........but he was still a very loveable and likeable man. He will be missed.

He was a wonderful man and true hero in my opinion. He was diagnosed with stomach cancer not long ago, so at least his death was fairly fast. He will be missed greatly.

I woke up to the story on the news...really sad. I remember sitting in front of the television as a child and watching his show everyday right after sesame street.
I loved the trolley and when Mr. Rogers would take you on a 'field trip' to the bakery or somewhere in his neighborhood.
What a sad day.
And, as said before, at least he didn't suffer for long.

Fangz and I share the same memories of him.It kinda makes you wonder about the people we grew up with, how many are left and how sad it makes us feel.We welcomed them into our homes with TV back when it was just learning, now I wish it was alot simpler.Mr.Rogers is in a much better neighborhood now.

His wife knitted all his sweaters. AND he wore them... what a wonderful man. Sadly missed, for sure.

Reverand? I understood that Fred Rogers had a Master Degree.
He will be missed by a lot of people but not forgotten. I think he was a great man even though I'm too old to have grown up with him. I didn't particularly like his style until some events in my life unfolded in a peculiar, tragic way. I started watching his shows while I was in my early 40's to see if I could understand him - his mission ya know.
A car wreck changed my life about 10 years ago (as if God kicked me in the butt with a powerful, and painful, wake-up-message, saying Slow Down! This is your last change to slow down, smell roses, so on and so on.
He meant a lot to kids I've worked with who grew up with him while these kids were fatherless. Most of the kids who related to him turned out to be the best kids I've known - very caring, sensitive, bright and all those qualities that are beyond gender - the qualities that make a person a great 'person.'

Mr. Rogers was also honorary captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team.
I teared up when I heard this. As a child in the 1970s I was only allowed to watch public television (teacher's kid)and Mr. Rogers was a big part of my childhood - I learned to spell "friend" at a very early age from listening to his songs, of which I have all the albums. I remember desperately wanting the small scale models of the Neighborhood of Make Believe that Mr. Rogers kept on a shelf in his kitchen - I can still name all of the make-believe residents. I've seen a sweater of his in the Smithsonian in DC...he's definitely going to be missed.

You really hit the nail on the head when you mention fatherless children!
My father was absent - either working, or drunk, and not a loving person at *all*. So Mr. Rogers, for my sister and me, was the perfect example of a kind and loving man - and we learned from him that we had *worth*, and that not all men are like my father was.
Thank God for Mr. Rogers - he made a ripple that has travelled so far over the years that the waves from that ripple could probably travel to Pluto and back.
He will live on in reruns, probably will be teaching my 4 year old daughter's future children about the trolley and the neighborhood. I'd like to think so, anyway.

Mr Roders parents used to live in Latrobe , Pa .. Thats where the town is supposed to be ( the Neighborhood ) anyway - his parents house ( they are dead now too ) is close to my mom and dads house - whole town was very sad . All the churches in the town had services for him . ( and neat to know his wife knitted those sweaters )
