I've noticed here recently that the the new post feature doesn't seem to work a lot of times. The threads with new posts are still showing up in dark grey but there is usually a number of new posts in parenthesis next to the number of replies and when you click on the thread it takes you to the newest post prior to your last visit. That option hasn't worked right in several weeks... at least for me. Anyone else having this problem? Anything I might be doing or not doing to cause this? Thanks.

Guess it's a good thing you started a new thread with a different title, addressing the same problem. I'm afraid that the non-working time is a bit more than half, by now. Bugs, bugs, bugs.

Well I guess I'm having a dumb day...hehe. I didn't even read through and see the other post. I don't even read hardly any posts any more because I can't remember where I left off at and it takes forever to sift through everything to figure out whats what. And I guess it is more than half the time. I logged on a few days ago and it worked but it has definitely not worked longer than it has worked. Oh well I guess we'll survive.

Hey! Did I just see a red number on a post???? It doesn't take much to make me happy, but my fingers are crossed this is back to stay! So much easier to follow

It works when it is turned on but now it is turned off.
The feature that tracks all posts read by each user, that lets each member know how many new posts there are on each thread, that takes members to the new posts, and offers a lot of info about new post takes a heavy toll on our server.
Without that feature we can have three times the number of visitors without problems... with "full new post tracking" turned on we can not handle the current number of visitors...
New post tracking is the reason for the overload and board crashes we experienced recently.
This is the response from our ISP when we asked about the crashes:

To offer the new post tracking feature without regular board crashes will require us to multiple by ten our current hosting costs.
We will only offer this feature on the VIP board for the time being. We are testing how it works there too.
It is a great feature but requires too much from the server as it has to keep track of every single post each and every member reads...
Even without the "full new post tracking feature" you will still be able to see which forums and threads have new posts...

Sorry, but I disagree with DB's statement. I cannot say anything about breakdowns of the DB server because I'm usually logged in at a time when most US users are asleep or doing whatever you can do when you leave your PC in peace.
It's not true that you can still see which thread has new posts, because once you have read them, the thread still shows a dark background colour on the index page. Even if I only read the threads about OPs that I order from or meds I take it now takes me much more time than before because I just have to guess where (in flat mode) the new posts begin as they are not marked as "new" like before. For me the Free Board is important, I have noticed that a new OP may already have a thread with 10 or 20 posts before the VIPs wake up. The posts that are not directly related to OPs and meds are helpful, too, but I guess I will give up reading them if things remain like this.
I received a PM from DB a few days ago asking me to stop talking about "them" (DB) and "us" (the members). Quotation: "like if we are the enemy or something ... it is your board too, our board". Nicely said, but decisions like switching the "New posts" feature on and off are only made by "them". BTW: I appreciate a lot of the new features since DB is not an ezboard any more.

The boards do not update every second... it takes a little time to update.
Also note that if you push the "back" button on your browser instead of letting the board take you to the next post... you will have to refresh the page to see the indicator change...
At this time "full new post tracking", (the little red numbers), is not an option for the free board as the boards would simply slow down or crash too often...

VIP's, (you are a VIP too), do not wake up after 10 or 20 posts... VIP's are the most active members on the free board and most likely made most of those 10 or 20 posts...
At this time we can only offer "full new post tracking" at the VIP board. We can not offer it on both boards and even if we wanted we could not offer it in the free board alone.
That said we like to point out that our boards are now faster, have more extra features, and are more user friendly, than ever

This feature is a an important part of the forum. It is like reading a really long book without having a bookmark.
I understand the issues you may be having with server crashes, etc. How about all these extras you added to spiff up the board that are certainly not needed. Maybe we can trade a few of these in, like the shoutbox? And some on the extras on the "entrance" page? I find some of these things a worthless use of bandwidth, but others may disagree with me.
How about starting a paypal donation button, so you can upgrade your servers?
I guess I'll stay on the VIP side until your server issue is resolved.

The shoutbox does not burden the server and helps to keep a lot of off topic posts off the board...
"Full new post tracking" does burden the server a lot and it is not an option. At this time we can not offer it on the free board even if we wanted.
It is a great feature, and at this time is only available at the VIP Board
We are upgrading our server all the time and a new upgrade is coming soon...
