Excellent article, thanks for posting. It's no wonder doctors are all freaked out prescribing opiates to patients with non terminal illnesses. When my mom was dying of breast cancer they were handing out Oxy like it was candy, thank God and the hospice people were more than willing to give her as much morphine as possible. That's great....but people who endure chronic pain every day of their lives shouldn't be excluded from getting appropriate pain medications. It's quite a mess!!! No telling where this will all end up.

In any case, very interesting article.

Very good info. Doctors are trying to stay balanced on a fence. Feds on ones side, patient's on the other.

I think we should all start a huge lawsuit against our doctors for undertreating our pain. I imagine this is what my grandmother felt like during prohibition. I swear I see more about "opiate narcotics" in the news everyday! What is the big deal? Using narcotics for pain has never been a such a huge deal until recently-why is that? MY God- we still haven't caught Bin Laden, but the government has the time to harass docs and patients about a little codeine? What is the matter with this country?
