I was very fortunate to have been able to obtain a "formal" education...and even though grammar errors bug me sometimes, I'm not perfect at it myself - no one else is either unless they have the time to really edit their posts! DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT! I hope you won't hesitate to post now...I really enjoy what you have to say. And that goes for anyone else who might now be feeling that they are being criticized. If someone has such a problem with grammar/spelling errors, then just don't read the posts. That seems to be a simple solution to me.

Arabhorse:
From one grammar/spelling nut to another, I just want to say thanks for saying what so many of us have been thinking. I realize it's nitpicking at it's worst to be so obsessive, but some of us seem predisposed to this ailment and (un)fortunately there isn't an OP out there that sells a cure. I write, edit and proofread for a living so this is in my blood. I think I could be in the running for "most anal-retentive poster on the net." Take a simple post/reply such as this one, for example. It's not an important post but that doesn't mean I won't obsess over it. First I thought out my reply and then typed it up, then I proofread it. Next I made a few changes in the structure and proofed it again. Then I rephrased 2 sentences, eliminated one, and looked up 3 words in the dictionary because I was only 95% sure the spelling was correct. After that I reread it. Then, I changed a word because I wasn't sure if it was used in proper context. Finally I proofread it again. THEN I hit the "Continue" button and read the preview of my post. I noticed a word that sounded odd so I went back in and changed it and finally I was ready to click on the "Continue" button to have it posted. One last time I read it in its final posted form, one that still isn't perfect but is acceptable. It took 10 minutes but now it's finished. I go through this painful process with each and every post or e-mail that I send. I can't help it, it's a part of me. I don't expect everyone to be like this, of course, but I thought some might like to see the other side of the fence, the side where most of the i's are obsessively dotted and the t's are crossed with a vengance. And I still left a few errors...

He wasn't talking about mis-spellings- only grammar. And you don't need a "formal" education- these things were taught in 3rd grade. their, there, they're, to, too, two, and apostrophes to show possesion- Those are Bill ' s footballs.

arabhorse I just noticed your post. I have an excellent grasp of English grammar, but usually post on the fly. This means I do not take the time to be a little more careful.
You make a great point. I think I will be much more careful about my grammar in the future.
David.

You'd *better* be careful of your grammar in the future or she'll throw slippers at you! (*what a temper!*)

Education can excersize the benefits of knowing how to spell and everything that follows, as I type this post I look at every word wondering, is it spelled right? am I being judged for every mistake I make? The harsh truth is I don't care as long as my point come across, I have made MANY mistakes in my posts and I plan to make many more. I think if we try our best thats all we should ask for, lets remember we are not typing a inuagural speech here, we're posting the goods and bad of meds. I reely hav troble speling kan sumbody pleez hlp me? b4 itz 2 late????
the best part is everybody understand what Im trying to say it was just not proper.......what is proper?

I should keep this article and show it to folks that don't believe any more in the good old proverb "non scholae sed vitae discimus". LOL (= i.e. "gaudeamus igitur, juvenes dum sumus")
