Norton Software - too good to be true?
      #60221 - 02/26/03 05:36 AM

I got an unsolicited mail today that had a link to this URL:

http://www.antiviruspros.com/mmm5.htm

Does anybody know this retailer? And what is the real reason why they can offer such a discount? They ship worldwide for 6 or 7 USD.

Any info is appreciated. I have just installed MS Windows XP Home.

Achim

Did you see the notation about how " the software does not come in the standard packaging " ? I don't know if it's "copied" or "stolen", but the fact it doesn't come in standard packaging, and that price is unbelievably low, I'm pretty sure this site is selling it illegally. Personally, I wouldn't advise installing any software from them on my computer. It might work great, but what if it's faulty ? The risk of damage being done to comp. is too much. I would also venture to guess that there will be no support from Symantec, and you may have problems registering it with them. It's definitely not authorized by Symantec.

This is who owns that website:

There is only one(1) link on the whole website. That to the order form.........................I wonder if Symantec knows about this?

Thanks, moonshade. I had some ideas like the ones you posted. I guess I will refrain from ordering.

PS: Thanks to bhamdave, too.

I wonder if Symantec shouldn't be informed about this site. Would hate to see them get a bad rep off of someone else's shady dealing.

I did email Symantec to investigate this. There's no email, phone, support, or any other contact on that website.

Good move, Dave! Thank you. I use Symantec and I'd hate to think of harm coming to the company because of someone else's lack of ethics (in ripping them off).
