Changing subject (title) of threads
      #50022 - 01/14/03 02:39 PM

I have noticed that lately, mostly new people have changed the subject heading of threads. For example, the subject "pharma24.cc" (very good subject heading because it tells me what it is about!) was changed to "waiting" which means absolutely nothing to me. Therefore, I have to open the thread to find out whether I want to even bother reading the thread. That is a waste of my time. PLEASE do not change the suject/title of the thread unless it makes it more informative, or better yet just leave it the same. Thank you from someone who has no interest in reading every new thread to find out whether it contains something relevant to me.

That's exactly why I'm visiting the board less.........I'm getting very disgusted that people refuse to read anything and just post when and where they want.

Right now the board is so un-organized............I would rather read the newspaper, and that's a rarity for me.

I've noticed that in the past two weeks the moderator is deleting more and more post. I'm glad he is, there has been to many inappropiate and misplaced posts. It takes only but a few minutes to read how to post, I wish more people would use the instructions.

In two days, I've counted over 40 posts by newbies that if they had read the board...........they would have found the answer to their question(s).

All it takes is a day or two to read.....read......read. And if the answer is not there feel free to post your question.

Please read the board.
Please see if your question has been answered.
Please post in the right thread........and without started a new thread about the same OP,subject,or question.

yet it sure does take a long time to get thru the muck of the changed subjects and off topic posts, doesn't it?? it's really frustrating.

I guess most people don't read the forum rules, or even enough to see when things have been switched around. I think we could all try harder. Are any long time members sending pms to these people? I used to, but got yelled at once too many, and it also takes even MORE of my time to do that, so I dont' know how else to try. How bout you guys??

I started a thread on this exact subject about 2 week ago.....
I guess that one was ignored..........
At any rate, I agree. Keep the thread title as it is and check to see if there is already one going on the topic you want info on.

Yes Toky, I used to pm strangers/newbies and explain where a post should be moved to and how to delete the original...75% of the time my advice was ignored, 20% the poster replied thanking me and did move the post, and the other 5% I got some nasty pms back.
As you know, none of us members get paid to take the extra time to try to help out this way and it just became not worth it for me anymore...and those members who have had their posts removed or deleted wonder why. Sigh.

I've come to the point where I only help those that pm me with a particuliar problem, question, etc........

Most ignore or send arrogant pm's like it's not any of my business to help them........or saying that they are better than me.

It is/will be rare that I just offer help to anyone..............only if they ask.

We have to welcome new members and make them feel comfortable...

But when you encounter a nasty newbie who does not care... just let the moderator know. We will ban that person so he/she can be nasty somewhere else...

The problem is not newbies or new users. The problem is nasty people, and they only show up as newbies because they get kicked out fast...

We are also installing a script that will restrict new users to "read only" for three days... to give them time to read and learn our ways...

DB........I do help those that I see "stumbling" around the board.........as we all needed help at first.

Rare that I "tattle" on those that are as you quoted "nasty" people.........that makes me feel like I'm in school again. Cause back then if you tattled you got beat up or put into a locker or your underwear went up the flag pole.

Hey Dave
I know what you mean about that underwear thing! It's worse when you're still in them, huh!! Anyway, I've always found you helpful, and I don't have a problem hitting that button if something is out of line. I figure I'm helping MORE people by letting db know about a post than if I just try to help that one person with a bad attitude. I'm here for the board as a whole... I really think it's OK to hit that button, as long as it's not obsessive or personal, etc.

And I would never run your undies up the flagpole!
take care,
toky

Its hard to remember that we all were new once and had no clue what we were doing. As with any sucessfull program, having a mentor or guide can be a big help
