Effective Migraine Meds?
      #51437 - 01/22/03 03:53 AM

Hi,
I currently use Imitrex for my migraines but INS only pays for #9/month. Since I moved to this DISEASED Fresno, Instead of getting one a year I now have 1-9/month. The Imitrex does a good job of squashing most of them and without drowsiness too. However, Last month I had one with nausea (which I rarely get, not even when pregnant) and vision and other horrible junk. The Imitrex needed a vico/anti-histimine/pepto-bismal boost, but I didn't really like to take ALL of that stuff just to be able to lift my head up. I have 2 young'uns ( 4 and 3) and need to be able take care of them. I've read some members taliking about Stadol nose spray, Fiorcet, Fiornal, but no specifics on what they are, how they work and what syptoms they relieve. Could one of you kindred migraine sufferers drop a PM or post and let me know what works 4 u? Again, u guys are great and I think you're wicked brave for ordering from foreign OPs, the risks, everything. As I become more comfortable with ppls' experiences I hope to order soon for myself. "Lead on brave souls!" Don't pay much attention to me when I was Shakepeare-ish. Used to teach it.
I'll simmer down now,
Aisha

Aisha~
I would first try Fioricet (cheapest from emedsdirect). If you think you're going to get the nausea, take 50 mg of Dramamine along with two Fioricet. For even fiercer migraines, you can add Codeisan (30 mg plain codeine), Contugesic (dihydroceine, time-release), or Perduretas (50 mg codeine, time-release). You know your medication tolerance, but start as small as you can.

Quite frankly, I would not recommend Stadol-NS unless nothing else works at all. Stadol is very rapidly habituating, and it's hard not to reach for it at the slightest sign of a headache. When diluted properly, it works wondrously well, but can also make you feel pretty euphoric, which is a nice feeling when you're used to the agony of migraines (and other stuff).

When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Usually, that individual is crazy.
