I know it is illegal to Import controlled sub. into the US. It seems that if meds are confiscated by customs people get a letter...and you loose your meds, end of story. But what if the med was illegal in the US? Then is it not importing it but smuggling? And possibly [if discovered] have legal consequences? I am wondering if there is a difference between the 2? And if the illegal med were to come registered mail ..by not signing for it and have it sent back to sender or whatever the postal service does with it, would that get the buyer off the hook legally by refusing the package? Any feed back ?? Thanks in advance.
I would think if you were importing a sched. I med or a drug that is not traditionally used in the medical field, they would probably follow up on it and make a visit to your home. I doubt if customs opened a package and found XTC pills, all you would get is a letter...They would kick in your door and give the letter to you. Is this what you're asking?
If the authorities are in that frame of mind, they will visit your home - if they have an address for drugs that have been imported without a license (they don't have to be scheduled even). If you look at threads in different forums you can see peoples experience with this - it has happened to them

There is actually an amendment called the Dingell that prohibts the re-importation of any medication that has been manufactured in the US and exported. It does not matter if it is contorlled or not. The exception is only by the department of Public Health, and they can re-import stuff for public health reasons (like epidemics).
