Drug Companies scam the American Public
      #42387 - 11/28/02 07:02 AM

"Finally the question that drug companies are most
loath to answer: Even taking into consideration the
high costs of R&D, are the drug companies in fact
grossly overcharging the U.S. consumer? Pharmaceutical
companies are wildly profitable. Their after-tax profits
on sales are three times the average for American industry.
And the taxpayer already subsidizes the drug industry in
numerous ways, through special tax breaks and government-funded
research in biomedical science."

True, but they also have indigent programs for people like myself who otherwise would be left without life-sustaining maintenance meds. It's doubtful anything will be done about the skyrocketing costs of health care anytime soon. There's too much money and power at stake and they are not going to give that up as long as we, as a country, continue to purchase their products.

Take Care,
Toky

But just think of how many more people they could benefit if they would cut down on their entertaining cost. I work in that field, I am a catering manager for a fine dining establishment, in the past 2 weeks I have done 5 pharmacutical diners with 20-30 guests each, Drs, Nurses, even their husbands. Total cost over $15000. Now tell me how many people that needed meds. could this cost of covered? Its seems to my that they could tell these Drs, etc. about the new and old drugs also, without spendind $50 to $75 per person. Call me Stupid or whatever but something does not seem right to me.

ONE LONG SIGH HERE.
I am a pharmacist and I can tell you that there are problems with every health care system in the world. I know some customers whose doctors get them their medicine free from the drug reps. I know several reps who leave medicine in our pharmacy for indigent patients. I KNOW PLENTY OF NEEDY PEOPLE FALL THROUGH THE CRACKS. Hell, I buy from foreign op's because my Dr. is too afraid to prescribe what I need. Plus I can acutally get my medicine cheaper if I buy a 3 month supply from an op rather than using my health insurance. That's irony.

The following study takes on democrats and republicans. It gives good, solid pros and cons to solutions and NON solutions. Please read it carefully and think about it before flaming me. It is a long summary of a study, but it is a serious study. Think about what you read and then have a debate not a scream fest.
