Quick FedEx question
      #42026 - 11/25/02 06:14 AM

I have a "2nd day air" delivery coming via fedex that must be signed for; since it was shipped Friday...it won't arrive until Tuesday, right?
Or do Friday 2nd day shipments come on Monday....? And does anyone know how to pick up a package (if it is at a local office, which, unless they made it walk from Nevada, I'm assuming it is ) early?
Danke

If you are going to miss it, and you know it clap your hands! clap, clap....

sorry... too much time with little ones...

Call 1-800-463-3339 with your tracking #. Let them know who you are, and what you want to do with your package. You will need picture ID when you pick it up at the fedex place.

Friday 2nd will come on Tuesday. I've never picked up a package early, only after a missed delivery.

Call them, they are very helpful.

Most places will allow FedEx to leave your package unsigned (if you have a place for them to put it/tell them where to put it) , as many places i've used over the years have offered the option. I received a 2nd day air package a few days ago while nobody was home, but it *was* inside the screen door so I didn't have to sign. This might not help you with this order, but in the future you might consider telling the place that you work during the day & need it left w/o a signature.

It's not uncommon for a 2-day package shipped on Friday and due for delivery on Tuesday to be delivered a day early, on Monday. It just depends on whether they have extra room ... or if they need to make room. You can trace the tracking number Monday morning to see if it's "out for delivery." If so, you'll probably see it heading to your city the night before ... or it could even have arrived in your city on Saturday. If it makes it to your city early, they'll probably try to deliver it Monday ... but they don't have to.

If you're lucky, you can have a package rerouted for pickup at a station on the delivery due date instead of home delivery. They don't have to do it. FedEx can do it. But for some reason UPS will *always* refuse to reroute anything to a station for pickup before they've made the first delivery attempt.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. If FedEx says they can't do it, then just chill out. The only one who can *demand* an en-route re-route is the Sender.

Since all FedEx packages require a signature unless you either have a signature release on file or the Sender has waived the signature, well, then you can be SOL unless you have a neighbor who will sign for it. If that's the case, and a signature is required, then put a note on your door telling them which neighbor to deliver it to ... and the neighbor will have to sign for it. Put the tracking number on the note, so they'll know it's from you and not from a neighbor trying to steal your packages.

If you're on good terms with your delivery person(s), then they can "forge" your signature on that device they carry. But that's violating company policy so they usually won't do that unless you express your appreciation by being nice to them, giving them a Xmas card with cash inside, etc. If they know you, they'll probably follow your instructions and leave the package wherever you say. It'll save them a trip back to your house, and also make less work of their unloading the truck at night and loading it up again the next day, so they're motivated to get the package delivered ASAP.

Be nice to your delivery people. Put some cash in their Xmas cards.

A heartfelt thanks for all the replies...the package was delivered Tuesday A.M. Normally I get 2nd day air delivered in the late afternoon/evening, so this may be a "happy medium" (technically, you don't get your package until the 2nd biz day---but 10 hours earlier than normal)
Anyway...thanks again.
