About becoming a VIP
      #25542 - 08/15/02 06:14 PM

I have read a few things about being a VIP with DB.com and it seems like a good thing to have. I noticed people talking about discounts with certain Docs and such.

I am thinking about becoming a VIP but I wanted to ask. Once you are a VIP are there Dr or OP's that can only be accessed by VIP members?
I hope I posted this in the right area. Just to also see if there is a problem. I actually tried to become a VIP when I first signed up for free on drugbuyers.com but, when I put in my CC, it said it was declined. Which is impossible because I used it to do my consult with MVW. Weird huh?

Hey Vince,
Good choice on looking into VIP membership. It is the VIP members who support BOTH boards.

The lists and the info are the same, it is the members who provide most of the information on OPs. However, there are quite a few bennies to being a VIP member. First, there are discounts that many OPs, domestic and international, give to VIP members. There there is the "search" feature, which allows you to put in your medication, and it will show who is likely to carry that med. I enjoy the freedom of the VIP board, as we have a LOT more forums for posting, including one where we can put all the posts that normally would be so off topic they wouldn't last a minute on the typical board. The only OP serving VIPs exclusively at this time is EVMG. I think that is because Shawn, the owner, has been a member for some time, and saw a need for a good, reliable, understanding OP, so he opened one, and chose to limit it to VIPs so that it doesn't get bogged down and become unreliable. Also, I think it's his way of "giving back" to the community.

So for about 5 bucks a month, you have access to 2 boards, TONS and TONS of info, and occasionally, a new OP that chooses to limit his clientele.

I think it's worth every penny....
take care,
toky

Vastchoirs,
The VIP board is a lot calmer. Toky pretty much summed it up in her post. It does support itself and the freeboard. That's the reason why I joined and I have never regretted it.

I kick myself in the butt every time I think about it. I should have joined back when I had a job and could afford it. And I had every intention of doing so until I realized things weren't going well at work due to lack of business.

Now, I've waited too long and have to sell my house and move 'cause I've been out of work for almost five months and I'm flat broke! BUT . . as soon as I get settled in (whatever state I end up in) . . . and get my computer hooked back up . . . the first thing I'm going to do is join the VIP board. I figure that's the least I can do for the use of this free board and the money it's saved me . . . Not to mention the extra added benefits you stated, Toky!

I've been freeloading long enough - LOL!!

The VIP board is really great and has a lot of extra forums not available here on the Freeboard. I have also noticed the VIP board is more closely moderated which is also nice to have.
My suggestion to anyone joining the VIP board...please please fill out your user profiles(obviously no super secret personal details!)with some basic info about yourself and give yourself a nice intro on the intro section and tell people a little bit about yourselves if you can!
Not to put a downer on the whole VIP thing but a lot of members are a bit leery/wary when it comes to newcomers especially those who ask where the oxy and hydro are straight up like they haven't read anything...you know that happens here sometimes too...I've seen it.
Anyway just wanted to add those coupla tips and I know you all would enjoy the VIP board and as well important as my opinion is(HAHA!)I think you'd make great additions to the VIP board! I'm sorry you have to wait Optimist4Now! I love reading your posts!
Please don't take what I have said negatively! I think this board is full of great people and you'd be fun to have there! ajs

I agree with you, arianna, it CAN be a bit difficult for new members on the VIP board to begin to feel 'at home'. Lots of members ARE wary of newcomers who pop in and ask the wrong questions (the same ones that no one here likes, either, as in "hi I'm new where's the oxy?"). So I would agree that it's nice if you make a little post in the introductions, it's in the same place as it is on this board. I think it's a useful forum, it's hard to keep up with all the posts and the new people, so the intros are a great way to get started!

LumbarSpasm, thanks for the compliment. I usually am not so succinct; it must be all that oxygen that the exercise is getting to my brain!

Opt4now, I think we all completely understand about the money issue. Just come over when you can, and keep on being who you are on this board! I love coming to this board and seeing your posts. We'll hold a place for you at the table, ok?

Mamaw, have sweet dreams, and hope to see you over there soon !

Take care all,
toky

I became a VIP member a few weeks ago,and I never go there. This board is all that I need.I really just wanted to lend some support.I have gained so much useful advice from this board, and felt I needed to give something back. The discounts are just an extra perk.

I've been a member of the VIP board for nearly a year, and it is definitely worth it to me. Think of it as double the information when you have both boards to read! The discounts are good, but what I really like is the added forums that allow members to discuss issues that cannot really be talked about on the free board. Plus, from time to time an OP comes along that will only serve VIP members. I really enjoy the info I read on the free board as well though. Take care...

I'm sorry about your troubles, Optimist. think about joining next time you have to do a consult, as you might have a discount if you're a vip member and it will pay for itself!

I joined one pay day a month(?) ago and really like it. I'm a people person, so I get to talk to people about off topic thins, and it's OK! I've learned a lot and really think it's worth the money - and I haven't even used any of the discounts yet!

I think it helped that I was on here for a while, then joined because people knew I wasn't a "newbie" just popping in. And, I don't run around saying 'where's the drugs?" LOL

anyway, good luck with your house and such!!

Thank you, sweetz . . .
So THAT'S where you've been lately . . . Hanging out with the big VIPs!! LOL

You suggested I think about joining the next time I have to do a consult (for the discount) which would be a great idea except lately I've had to stick to only one OP (the one that has the $50 follow-up consults) and I wouldn't get a discount even if I were a VIP. But I don't believe the discounts are the real reason anyone joins anyway, are they? I just want to support this board . . AND, like you said, I'm a people person too so I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone on the other side.

If you're thinking about the OP I'm thinking about, they offer a 10.00 discount on consults other than the first one. I plan on using mine soon. I have to use several ops because the ones I like only prescribe one med at a time and that causes problems, ya know??

Wow, you HAVE been following me around today, haven't you?

You know it's really nice to talk to people about those off topic "thins". We're really all 'thin' over there. So much for typos....

take care of yourself hon. feel free to PM me anytime even if just to vent!!

Hmmm.... I'm one of them "from the 'other side'", eh? lol....even in RL I live "on the other side of the tracks". I don't know that I got any discounts from the VIP board other than now using EVMG, but I'm with Sweetz, I adore the off-off topic areas. Fortunately, we get to mess around a lot here, too, so we can get to know each other better. Opt4now, don't worry about joining to support this board; when you can, you will, and if not, well, they can't possibly expect everyone who comes to this board to pay vip membership!! They'd never be able to moderate all those posts!

Take care,
a 'thin' from the other side,
Toky

Toky - Yep . . You too are an "uptown girl" from the other side of the tracks!
Do your "off topic areas" on the VIP board include "off color jokes"?? LOL

hehe.... guess that depends on what "on color" jokes are!
But yes, we have a thread or 2 devoted to "just for fun", which is really nice when I need some brightening of my day.

Well Hello there Toky20!!..It sounds as if the Vip bord is the place to be. I just joined the the free board today under the advice of a friend, but I didn't realize that actual "fun" was involved on the Vip board!! I could really use some "fun" about now as I have 4 crushed vertebra in my back, from playing some football. There goes my season!
Sounds like these boards may help take everyons's mind off their pain, which is a wonderful thing..Glad I'm here..btw-Very nice to meet you...If I need help, maybe I could pm you? Seems as though you have been here awhile and I would truly appreciate any help..Thank You

Sure thing, Muscleman...
but don't for one second believe that the freeboard isn't a great place to be, it really is! I am here at least as much as I am on the other board. The freeboard members are the first to post new OPs and the information gets here faster than it does on the vip board. So each board is just a little different. Actually, the vip board is more heavily moderated (but it's THIS board that I get in trouble on!! ), but then again, it DOES have all those extra forums for us to talk about other issues besides just pharmacies and their methods of doing business.

Nice to meet you, pm anytime,
Toky

Just thought I'd mention (in case any DB moderators
are within earshot) that I tried a few times the other
night to get a VIP subscription via the online check option.
It failed repeatedly. For a while it said my routing/checking
numbers were invalid. And *each* time, when I went back
to correct it (tho' I have no idea what was wrong and it
didn't give a hint), I had to type *everything* over:
name, address,...everything.

Finally it seemed to accept the banking info, then failed
with some cryptic error 279 or something.
I have no idea what that was all about.

I'll try again soon to join, via credit card this time.
But I think DB should know that the online check system
is pretty bad, and they probably lose subscribers as a result.

Regards,

Molly (VIP to be)

Go to "My Home" located near the top of the page. Then go to "Display preferences." This is how you can change background color, text color, etc.
