I try to stay at 20mg a day.. And only 4 days a week... Some weeks are very hard.. I think the poll is great!!

May I point out, please, that this is a meaningless question. How many milligrams of narcotics one takes could mean any number of things. Ten milligrams of morphine sulfate is certainly different than 10 milligrams of codeine. Both are narcotics. Then the sustained release factor must be considered. Taking 80 milligrams of OxyContin is certainly MUCH different than taking 80 milligrams of Oxy-IR, even though both drugs contain the same amount of oxycodone. Then there are those who use narcotics who take NO milligrams per day. Witness users of fentanyl. Even ONE milligram of fentanyl would be fatal to many. Finally, there's the question of tolerance. One person may take 20 milligrams of oxycodone to receive the same analgesic effect as another person who must take 320 milligrams due to titration over many years. Perhaps the question should be restated as: How many milligrams of WHICH narcotic does one take daily? For myself, 30mg hydrocodone daily is about average. Some days I may take 40mg and other days none at all.

ZERO! I am so happy to put that in your poll! I use to take an average of 300mg a day (hydro)! I feel for you people in pain dealing with dotors and pharmacies!! I've been there...Hope

While the thought obviously crossed my mind the poll would be to difficult to conduct by individual meds. Thats why I stuck with just narcotics. I too take morphine 2x a day with several diff. break thru pain meds. Since the majority of people on this site who use narcotics for pain relief probably use Hydrocodone since it is a sched 3 and easier to obtain. Plus previous polls indicate such is the case. So even if you figure 17% (high rate Im thinking)of the participants take oxycodone, morphine, fentanyl,or dilaudid products Im confident they will be simply classified in the 100mg + category. So if my theory is true the poll should end around 20-25% in the 100+ category. Thanks for polling!

You're right, Coz. Sometimes I'm just too analytical for my own good. I've been trying to figure out how to configure a poll such as the one I envisioned. Hydrocodone probably is the single most utilized narcotic by members of this board, with codeine probably running a closer second than any of the others mentioned. I'll be watching the poll to see how it turns out. Have a PAIN FREE weekend!

Probably won't believe this but it's true.
A few months back I was put on Suboxone before I killed myself or someone else from my excessive drug use.
For about three years, ending around June 2004, when I was successfully treated with Suboxone, my pill of choice was Ultram.
Until I was hospitalized with a seizure from too much Ultram -which is when I discovered Suboxone- I was taking a slightly high dose.
I was taking between 2400 mgs and 2750 mgs of Tramadol a day.
I don't take Ultram anymore but I still have a relationship with other pain killers.
This doesn't exactly fit into this post category but I don't intend to leave this post here for more than a day at which point I will delete it.

I take between 20 to 30 mgs of hydro per day, but only at night. I give up a day or two now and then, but pains creeps back up on me. I seem to be ok during the day. Thats why I only take at night. It has made me functional.......

how about everyone visit a converter, and then everyone post their daily intake converted to hydro? We could all convert to hexadexaultrahydrolyzide morphone diphenyl, but most of us use hydro.
