shaking legs
      #239201 - 03/19/05 04:24 PM

I have been trying to find the thread that mentions the shking legs syndrom? The poster said his Dr. told him to put a bar of bath soap under the sheet in the area where your legs lay. Well for 20 years my Husband has had shaky legs at night,(after HE is asleep) and by he11, they would shake like doing a symphony or whatever......here is the recipe....shake...5 times
wait 20 seconds
shake 5 times
wait 20 seconds
and on and on ALL night. I even have many witnesses thru the years..... but anyway, I tried that soap thing and I swear not only on My Mothers eyes, but My eyes and everyone elses it works.....
BUT you can't use dial or dove or maybe it's Ivory or dove.
I used safeguard and it works...I SWEAR TO GOD.........

It's like magic.

Are you referring to Restless Legs Syndrome?? Not really 'shaking' but an internal (infernal!!!!) weird jangling nerve sensation that makes you feel like you HAVE to move your legs even tho it's the middle of the night; your head is 95% asleep and your legs are running a marathon?! It's the absolute worst, and here's a link to a website that I picked up somewhere about RLS, but I think has information about similar movement disorders: www.wemove.org/rls/
If it's RLS your hubby has my complete sympathy. I thought it was all in my head and have suffered from it since adolescence but never knew (still don't) know why, since I could never get an MD to diagnose it, or for that matter even acknowledge it, they would just say "Hmmmmm.." and never had any idea what I was talking about! A recently really bad episode due to a reaction to a new SSRI lasted almost 4 days and was not just at night like it usually is. My doc told me to take benadryl, which was pointless! Benadryl may as well be a tic tac for me, drs seem to think that it is the cure for everything, what's with that?? At least the doc ackowledged the RLS as a rare but possible side effect of the meds they had me on, makes me feel not so cuckoo! Good luck, hope the site can help you out.

Oh yeah, I've heard about the soap thing and everyone says the same thing, "this may sound crazy but..." and they all say it works, is Safeguard the one to use? I'd like to try it, RLS is such misery, I'd put a rotten fish head under my mattress if it really worked!

yeah anything but the kind that is mentioned...just use one that is mostly used up so there isn't such a big lump in the bed.

Stuff like this intrigues me.

Is it possible there's a scientific explanation for something like this? On the face of it, it doesn't seem so...

Reminds me of a cure (or alleviation of symptoms, can't remember which) for asthma someone told me about. She said if I got a chihuahua, my son's asthmatic condition would instantly improve. It sounded far-fetched to me. Still does.

But who knows?

I used to be the type that demanded proof. If it sounded unbelievable, then it probably was. But over the years, I've softened my stance somewhat. I've learned that there's not always a reasonable explanation for some of the things that happen.
