OK...Now is someone playing tricks on me? I received this email today:
Quote:
Dear Sir/Madam,
we have logged your IP-address on more than 40 illegal Websites.
Important: Please answer our questions!
The list of questions are attached.
Yours faithfully,
M. John Stellford
Federal Bureau of Investigation -FBI-
935 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Room 2130 Washington, DC 20535
(202) 324-3000
I do not use any OP's. I haven't in about a year. The email address that this letter came to is the address that I used to register HERE, at DB.com. I have not used it for anything else what so ever. I have looked at links posted on this site, can they get my email address that way? I have never logged onto another site with this email address.
The return address is The attachment was deleted by my email provider saying it contained virus's.
What should I think of this? Anything? I have not done a single thing illegal so I am certainly not concerned about that. I am curious about the use of my email address, one I only have used here.
Any ideas?

There was a thread back in January titled threatening email. I found it by searching 'blackmail'. Anyhow, different email but the circumstances seem similar. By the way, the number for the FBI is the general line that any a$$hat can get off the net. I wouldn't think that there is anything to worry about given the circumstances.

THANK YOU!
Origins: In mid-February 2005, e-mails accusing recipients of having visited "more than 40 illegal Websites" and purporting to come from the Federal Bureau of Investigation began turning up. Those cowed by the charge into opening the attachment (indictment_cit9792.zip) unwittingly released the virus into their computers, a mass-mailing worm that uses its own SMTP engine to send itself to e-mail addresses gathered from compromised computers.
The FBI has nothing to do with these letters these missives are purely the work of the virus originator, his or her way of ensuring the attachment accompanying the e-mail gets opened and thus its payload triggered. On 22 February 2005, the FBI issued the following press release about these letters:
FBI ALERTS PUBLIC TO RECENT E-MAIL SCHEME
E-mails purporting to come from FBI are phony
Washington, D.C. - The FBI today warned the public to avoid falling victim to an on-going mass e-mail scheme wherein computer users receive unsolicited e-mails purportedly sent by the FBI. These scam e-mails tell the recipients that their Internet use has been monitored by the FBIs Internet Fraud Complaint Center and that they have accessed illegal web sites. The e-mails then direct recipients to open an attachment and answer questions. The attachments contain a computer virus.
These e-mails did not come from the FBI. Recipients of this or similar solicitations should know that the FBI does not engage in the practice of sending unsolicited e-mails to the public in this manner.
Opening e-mail attachments from an unknown sender is a risky and dangerous endeavor as such attachments frequently contain viruses that can infect the recipients computer. The FBI strongly encourages computer users not to open such attachments.
The FBI takes this matter seriously and is investigating. Users receiving e-mails of this nature are encouraged to report it to the Internet Crime Complaint Center via http://www.ic3.gov.
This is not the first time a virus has been spread via an e-mail purporting to come from the FBI. In January 2004, a SoberC variant was passed along in similar fashion with its payload e-mails serving notice that "your computer was scanned" and the "contents of your computer were confiscated."

You're welcome! Glad it wasn't harmful to you. I had just read that yesterday and remembered it when I saw your post. The Snopes emails are great for alerting you to new email scams and the like.

Ok, I USED to work for the FBI in the J. Edgar Hoover Building in DC, before moving to Pittsburgh. I quit over 4 years ago, so dont worry about me being a MIB, lol I guess WIB being female and all, lol. I just didnt like the job and my family is all in the Pittsburgh/Northern WV area. Anyway, enough about my life history, like everyone said, it is a spoof, and there is a link on www.fbi.gov about the fake emails going around. Also, the Room number on your email is bogus. I do not recall a room 2130. Probably a janitors closet or something, who knows. I could give more info about this if anyone wants to PM me. Once again, I no longer have ties with them, Im now a furloughed flight attendant who decided to go back to college.

Yup, just delete it! The FBI will just come and get you as MURPLE stated. They will not e-mail you.

Karrie515,
I just have to ask! Did you know agents Mulder & Scully while you were at the FBI?
But seriously, you say you left because you didn't like it, but I'm still impressed with the idea of a woman FBI agent (WIB) lol & showing my age i guess. When I was a little girl only boys got to be spies & cops & FBI agents.
Good luck with college & your career change!

I don't know what happened in your towns but in 2002 and 2003 the FBI were running *hitloads of ads trying to recruit more people into the fold, made of point of openmindedness, like hiring women and disbled people. I could just see some bubbleheaded kid with no sense of history, considering himself a patriot getting all gung ho and signing up. I think some of what they do is necessary but for the most part they suck, busting people for victimless crimes, etc. Ugh, Dumsfeld and co. sh*t on them so badly recently, I wonder what it did to their funding and all of that. I hear they are going to do more domestic work these days, which probably means they are coming after us.

Oh oh, sorry - had the wrong police organization in my mind - Dumsfeld has been smearing the CIA and they are supposed to become more domesticated. But they are bending the heck out of the FBI too!
