Hi All,
I hesitated to post this because I don't want to alarm anyone (else), but a woman who lives in my general area (sub-suburb of Big City in Deep South) was arrested for, er...having pills she'd "obtained from international sources through the mail." They did a full on raid at her home: Customs, Postal Inspectors, and Big City Police (which I don't understand because we're not in their jurisdiction, and have our own police dept.) and confiscated a lot of pills...in our local paper (a weekly), the chemical names of the meds were reported, along with her name and home address (!!!) and they made it sound as if she was a big time dealer--I looked up the meds and it was Empacod (sp?) which contains a little codeine, somas, but most of it was @$$#@! "Darvon" which doesn't even work as well as motrin or tylenol for pain (IMO--and there are several medical studies indicating it's not that effective as a pain reliever).
Anyway, that's all I know...just wanted to give everyone a Head's up

Is there a link to a news story on the net regarding this material?
Thanks

Unfortunately there isn't. This was published in my local weekly (the one's they throw for free in your driveway) and to my knowledge wasn't picked up by Big City's media outlets.

Heard about something like this happening in Georgia. The person in question, though, was arrested for having internet mail order meds in their possession, NOT in their bottle(s), which, I understand, is illegal in GA.
A GA pharmacist told me this one.

Having a controlled substance (prescription) in your possession that is not in the original bottle from the pharmacy is against the law. It's simple, leave your pills in the bottle from the pharmacy. You can be arrested for having loose pills in your pocket.

Uh-oh...Empacod is available through speedrx. I have not seen it available any where else.

No kidding?! In all states? I always put a few in a tiny little pillbox that fits in the front pocket of my jeans--I don't carry a purse so it's almost impossible to carry a bottle except if I have on a jacket. Hmmm, that's interesting, are you sure?

planielsen that is not the rule in every state. You would need to check with local and state authorities. I know plenty of people who carry their meds in pillboxes-including scheduled meds.

I know in CA it's illegal, as one year at summer camp they raised all sorts of hell for a girl having a bunch of mixed stuff in one bottle, and the med they questioned most was....MIDOL!! true story....
and in CO it is also illegal, although I do it all the time, as there are several meds I need to carry with me when I leave the house for any length of time. What the pharmacy CAN do is make you an extra bottle so that you have one to carry, but I agree, it's stupid to carry all those bottles around when a small, inconspicuous container will do. I also do not carry a purse, as it's one of the first things my doc said to give up if I wanted to have a healthy back.
On this one, they can eat my shorts if they don't like how I carry my meds. I have Rx for them all and it's not a big worry of mine right now. I have bigger fish to fry.
I hope all of you with orders from the same place that got this woman busted get your orders easily and without problem
take care,
toky

So I have a case that is for travel. I put my meds in each bottle. 12 of them. I've had customs look at them several times when I've been traveling. They have never even asked what they were. They just unzip it and close it back up.

Exactly. I mean the pharmacies sell those little daily boxes to keep up with what you've taken and what you have left to take. You can even purchase designer brands of pill boxes where you buy purses and wallets. This whole thread is a bummer! I am so sorry for the person that had to encounter this experience. Best of luck with the whole situation.

Even if it's a state law that requires you keep the pills in their original bottle, this could be a big hassle especially if you have many scrips. Most pharmacies give you duplicate receipts for every Rx fill. Having that paper in your wallet could be a good idea .. or it'd be even better to tape them to the pill container. I doubt any judge is gonna be happy if you get brought in on such a technicality when you had proof of the scrip on your person at the time.

i never carrya full prescription bottle for simple risk of losing it.i usually put a few in an older emptier bottle.although i know this method may or may notfit the letter of the law what i have done on occassion if i have to carry my meds with no bottle(old or otherwise)is to put te computer printed info sheet which all local pharmacies staple to the bag(which has almost all the info the bottle label has)in my wallet

There's no way of knowing which op(s) were involved...the article just referenced "international sources". And I'm not calling the D.A. to ask. But Ill let everyone know if I hear anything.
Hopefully (for us, not her), this will turn out to be a case of someone the woman knows tipping off the authorities...

Judging from what she ordered (Empacod and Darvon) it would be Access meds ... they have both these products and seem to be the only OP who carry Empacod ... don't think anyone mentioned how in fact she was found out ... real shame as these are very weak products, the Empacod has 20 mg codeine; this HAD to be a large order or she wouldn't have gotten fried (southern style hope it never happens again ...

i take 12 different scripts during the day at varied times so i keep all of them in a little bag with a shoulder strap so that they are accessible both at home and when i leave the house i think of them like american express...i never leave home without it. it sure helps keep me organized and each script can remain in the original bottle that way.

my guess,as well as one firsthand story(MANY years ago)is 1 night in jail(if its not the weekend)release on a PR bond an arraignment and a "case didmissed without prejudice"AFTER you produce the original prescription bottle.and to this day although 1 night in jail is no big deal its still not much fun,i still refuse to carry a NEW prescription bottle and risk losing the whole monts supply(thats what the drs call it at least hehe)seriously, ive always carry te computer print out in my wallet unless i have an older almost empty bottle

I just spent 2 weeks in the Ocean Co. Jail for having 10 valiums in my pocket(no bottle) walking on the boardwalk at Seaside Hieghts NJ. They cuffed me and dragged me away.
All this from 2 cops on bicycles........I dont know what they saw to check me. Its not like I was giving away free samples.
NJ sucks with the law, they can take you in for having a roach in you butt pack.

sweat - I am SO sorry to hear about you being in jail for two miserable weeks. Wasn't there anyone who could post bail and get you out? I can't believe they would keep you that long for 10 Valiums . . . overnight, maybe or (worse case scenerio) for the weekend but NOT for 10 days.
Had the two bicycle cops been watching you? How did they know you had Vs in your pocket? Even if they had seen you take one of them, it could have been an aspirin for all they knew.
Stories like yours just scare the poop out of me. Glad you have you back.

Geez, sweat, I'm so sorry!!! Ya know, my neurotic DOG takes valium, he's got his own bottle and everything. But I hate taking the whole bottle with me if we're travelling, subjecting them to all that heat and such in the car! I guess I better start asking for 2 bottles, and making sure I have a big enough knapsack to carry them all in! This is really disgusting, what happened to you, and unless there was a REALLY good reason for them to nab you, I think I'd get a lawyer on it right away....Don't they have any thing BETTER to do with their time? It's hardly an effort on "the war on drugs" when they waste the taxpayers' time and money on 10 valium....
Take care, and welcome back,

Well, New Jersey cops don't all believe in the 4th Amendment. Remember all that fuss over NJ State Troopers on the Turnpike pulling people over for Driving While Black (DWB)? That term was coined on account of NJ cops. DWB was probable cause back then for searching cars. It took a class-action lawsuit and a consent decree to try to stop it. But old habits die hard. If you're black or hispanic, and don't look like you can afford to hire a lawyer ... watch your back.

The Mt Laurel Barracks Exit 4 of the turnpike continues to discipline officer's to this day for ignoring the Justice Department decree. NJ is a very strict state and you are correct we have no 4th amendment rights in this State.
Take care. Billylll
