The very best way to avoid side effects is never to take a medication. But that has it's down side too, considering that medications save countless lives every year. Everything has it's risk. I choose to take the risk of 200 mg/day. I suspect my 18 mile commute to work every day has a higher risk associated with it.
You take care also,

Can anyone recommend a drug effective as Ultram? I am taking Paxil and I cannot get off it or I'll face the horrible depression and anxiety again.
Sigh...
If it works for you, why would you want to get off of it? Many people take Paxil and other antidepressants for years. You are very lucky that you've found a drug that works. Most people try many different antidepressants before they find one that works- if they ever do

Are you taking the Ultram for depression, or as a painkiller? I've heard of people using Ultram for depression, and I was just wondering how effective that was.
Researchers at the University of Cincinnati received a patent for the treatment of OCD with tramadol. However, as far as I know it is not yet an accepted first line treatment. It is also potentially useful for the treatment of anxiety. Tramadol inhibits serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake. This may account for it's potential value in treating anxiety and mood disorders. However, there are many drugs for the treatment of OCD and anxiety that are probably more effective. I believe that, at this point, tramadol should be used when nothing else works and there are also some pain issues.
