I am still having breast cancer reconstruction surgery, after a one year nightmare with a demented surgeon; dental implant number 5 was installed last Friday and I still fight my unrelenting back pain... I thought I had problems..........
Went to my local chain pharm today to have an RX filled for 7.5 Vicoprofen from my oral surgeon and the pharmacist (a really nice guy) said that my insurance kicked back this "notice" of the controlled meds I've had filled in the past 90 days and it was EXCESSIVE.
I also have a PM doc that expects me to survive my normal, everyday excruciating coxxyx pain AND all this surgical pain with 3 Percocets per day and 2 Relafin (a motrin). "Please do not accept or simply shred any and all pain medication prescriptions from any other provider"...
I CAN do beautifully on this regimine, as long as I'm between surgeries, but I cannot otherwise.
I've read on this board that pain relievers are basicaly cheap. I believe it would be to my advantage to NOT use insurance when filling these meds, but that IN ITSELF would cause a red flag, right?
Listen to me, "red flag" - I haven't done anything wrong, as far as I know.
Anyone?

Daycamp, doesn't that just make you sick? Insurance companies now dictate medical care regardless of what the doctor recommends. Yes, I would fill the prescription and pay cash. Pain meds are cheap.
Good luck.

I believe I depise insurance companies more than any
other business in the US. I have had more trouble
with them - on the average - than any one else, in-
cluding the IRS. Who hasn't got a bad story to tell
about insurance?

Your story is all to common.
Even 10 years ago (and of course it's only gotten worsefrom a patient's perspective since then) I had an insurance company refuse to pay for about 1/3 of my many scheduled meds saying I took to many. Ironically, I was an
employee of the insurance company that limited my claims.
Yes, I can relate!

I have used this board for all of my meds, and will continue to do so. I have been denied insurance for a long time due to my Hep C that was contracted in the service of this country. I find that morals and ethics do not exist in insurance, government and even sometimes the medical profession.
good luck

Is it possible to have your doctor call your insurance company and advise them that this medication IS warranted?
There has to be something you can do. Have you discussed it with your doctor? Don't let them get away with this. You will not be able to get the same medications online that you can get from a doctor. And, this "I've read on this board that pain relievers are basicaly cheap." is not true compared to using insurance.
I believe I would even consult an attorney if need be. You can't let them dictate your care when they haven't even examined you.
Talk to your doctor. Ask him about consulting an attorney if he will not call the insurance Co and get this fixed for you. If he didn't think you needed it, he wouldn't have prescribed it.

Thats obviously a crummy INS co. I have Cigna...and they only pay for 180 of one of my pain meds, but my Dr gives me 240...The pharmacy does let me pay cash for the additional meds....I have (3) sch2's and (1) sch 3 med everymonth and have never had them tell me anything like that. Truly strange....I feel for ya tho

I once had a pharmacist tell my doc that I had excessive narcotic scripts, even though almost all were from him and none ever overlapped. They told him that after the script he was calling in I couldn't have any more narcotics. This was CVS, needless to say, I don't have that doc anymore or that pharmacy.
At a different pharm I had a script for ultram. It was a 7 day script, my insurance would refill on the fifth day. I was getting it for a while on the fifth day. Finally they tell me that they won't let me fill it on the fifth day anymore, they don't care what the doc or insurance says (of course we all know you are allowed to refill early so you don't run out, at least on meds like that and the doc didn't care) I had to say bye to Brooks too.
For a while after that, until I went on sub, I had different pharms for all my meds. Supermarket had the hydro, another had the ultram, another had the stomach meds,it was annoying but easier in some ways. Some had my insurance and others didn't. It's way too much for pharms around here if you are filling ultram every 5 days and hydro every 5 days at the same place. Some things they just don't need to know.
