please help with question about ups
      #215686 - 01/15/05 03:47 PM

I have an order coming 2nd day air that is set for delivery on the 18th, tuesday. I wanted to see if I can get it at the hub somehow. Do I have to wait until Tuesday or if it is there can I get it before they make a delivery attempt. I am worried that I will not be home when they come, and it is a cod.Does anybody know if I can do anything?

Thanks,
momof4

Hi momof4,

From my experience, they must make at least 1 attempt at delivery and after that I'm not sure if they will hold it at the HUB for you or not. I would recommend calling UPS - 1-800-pick-ups and ask what their policy is. In the future when you make an order, give them the address of your local UPS/Fedex HUB and on the 2nd address line put "Hold for customer pickup". That way, you don't have to wait for delivery and you can pick it up in the morning or whenever it's convenient. They will call you to let you know you have a package ready for pickup and this way you are in control.

Good luck!!

I agree with LittleMissy. I know from personal experience that they must make one attempt to deliver to the shipping addy. After that you can definitely have it held at your local hub. Some people have their packgages shipped to the hub so they can pick up there packages quicker. I've read on here before that people have had there packages held prior to delivery, but UPS has told me repeatedly that is against there policy.

This type procedure has always been a breeze with Fedex, but in my experience it is generally more problematical at UPS. I have often had packages held at the local Fed ex location (not the hub, but at one of the hundreds of Fedex storefront dropoff counters in my city). I have had Fedex re route packages that are out on the truck for delivery, to a different address. Nobody ever seems to say "no" to the customer at Fedex.

I have never found UPS to be consumer friendly. Their customer base has been almost exclusively large companies that ship thousands of packages, and I find they are not responsive to the individual. When I started my business in the early 80's UPS refused to let me open an account, because I was not shipping enough packages. So for 22 years I have shipped with Fedex only.

Best way to get it held at the hubs at either place is to use the hub address as your shipping address. Your name and the hub address, that way you cab pick it up when they open and not have to wait. In some cases you get the package allot faster that way. But if it's already shipped to your address you have to let them try to deliver it at least once before you can get it at the hub.

I agree with holding it at the hub. Actually any package sent I can usually get a day earlier that way.
I must say that I've had great customer service with UPS and Fedex.

I have a quick question.

Is UPS not delivering Monday, Jan. 17th because of Martin Luther King Day?

I was just wondering because I originally had a scheduled delivery date of Monday, Jan 17th and all of a sudden today the tracking info states, "In-Transit--Rescheduled Delivery, Tuesday, January 18th.

GRRRRRRRRRR......I placed this order on Tuesday the 11th and requested 2nd Day Air believing I would receive it by Friday the 14th. Well of course, it sat in BIR until Thursday the 13th with a scheduled delivery date of the 17th...So...I began rationing what I had left....Well, now I will be out as of this evening.

This is so infuriorating

Deb

p.s. After reading these posts, if open tomorrow, I will try to pick them up at hub.

yet they grind exceeding small;
Though with patience He stands waiting,
with exactness grinds He all.

I work as a shipper using ups, and i heard nothing about a ups holiday on monday, and also, they still deliver air packages on holidays if that's the case which i'm 99% sure that's not the case on monday.

Both Fedex and UPS are open tomorrow (MLK day) the United States Post office is closed as well as banks , so if you need a MO get it from a local convenience store, food chain etc. don't plan on getting it from a bank !

I had a 2 day package a few weeks ago (fedex) that said delivery was the next day , I had the MO ready just in case and even though the site kept saying scheduled del .. (the following day ) It was in transit with no location listed or that 'on truck for delivery ' statement , but it arrived here a day ahead anyway.. you just never know , if they have time it seems they deliver , probably to lighten their load for the next day .. just an FYI don't want to give false hope but they are delivering tomorrow

Here's the schedule from both the UPS and FEDEX sites

Thanks for the info Misstified that's good to know! I also have had the same experience w/ Fed Ex. There 2 day delivery always reachs me in 1 day. Even though Fed EX's estimated delivery date is 2 days away I always get my packages in 1 day. Never has this happened with UPS. My business receives packages a few times a week from either carrier. Fed Ex wins hands down.

I think It depends on what place you are using, I spoke to someone at apainsolution.com today via email, and their pharmacy was running also.
