Does this qualify as records?
      #213401 - 01/07/05 11:42 PM

I went to the doctor today and was prescribed a very small quantity of 10 mg valium / diazepam to deal with anxiety about an operation I am having done in a week. Likewise, I will prob get a small script for hydro after the operation to deal with pain.

So my question is, would this kind of "one time" prescriptions suffice for most of the OP that are classified as "Records required"... in particular the Valium script? Are the doctors looking for a true long term physical condition, or do they really just want to see that you are healthy enough (in the opinion of a legit MD) to safely take the medication?

Any insights would be much appreciated!

It depends on the OP. But they seem to be getting a lot stricter and you would probably need better records, unless you were requesting a very small quantity. Not to get personal...but is the surgery something you could use the records from?? They like surgical records. Good luck!

^^^
to answer your question, no I couldnt use the surgical records... it is for a vasectomy, which does not cause any sort of long term anxiety or pain. Its a 30 min outpatient procedure. so...

thanks for the reply

It's enough for nhrg, but probably not a "true" records place.

Hey, Hydrocode! Don't worry about that vasectomy! My boyfriend before I got married had one and he went right back to work the same day, and back in the saddle romantically in 2 days (but still had to use birth control until the sperm was tested)! These doctors are so good at what they do, it is done so quickly. My dad had one and said it wasn't bad at all. But I know how it is to have any procedure done to certain areas of the body, I remember that I was horribly concerned about getting an episiotomy when I was about to give birth. It just seemed so creepy to me! But afterwards it wasn't bad, I think that we build up things in our mind too much! I suffered with an painful impacted wisdom tooth for 10 years because I was afraid to have it out. When I finally couldn't take the pain anymore, I had it pulled and I felt foolish at how easy and quick it was!

I do have sort of a funny story about a vasectomy though. I had to have my gallbladder out on the same day, my best friends husband was getting his vasectomy done. My jerky surgeon prescribed me darvocet for post surgical pain, which isn't too effective at all. I called my friend to let her know how I was doing, and I said, "I'm in pain! How's Jim?" She says, "Oh, he's fine, the doctor gave him some percocet, so he's on the couch and he looks real happy!" I couldn't believe it, I had an organ cut out of my body and was given darvocet and he had a teeny little incision and was given the good stuff! Life just isn't fair!

As far as the records go, do you need anxiety meds normally? If so, I'd go to a doctor and tell him your problem, and ask for a copy of the doctor visit, which will list your complaint as anxiety. Even if the doctor doesn't prescribe you something, then you will have a medical record to give to the OP. Did the doctor give you anything from the visit, and if so, does it state that your anxiety is caused by the upcoming vasectomy? I've heard of some OPs that will just take a copy of a physical exam, I know one used to have something on the website that you took to a doctor to fill out.

Another option is to go to one of the OPs who don't require records until the first refill. That will give you time to visit a doctor and get your anxiety documented.

Good luck to you! I really admire you for getting the vasectomy, your wife must be so pleased. I asked my husband to get one so I don't have to have my tubes tied or keep worrying about getting pregnant now that I'm almost 40 and he refused!

YOu can probably easily get meds from one of the NROPs (or some OPs for that matter), but I think they normally deal with chronic issues.

Good luck with your vasectomy! I'm sure "it" will be just fine!

what astrophel said. plus a lot of rops will NOT accept hospital visits or a prior rx as "records". see if your doctor will let you have some valiums in the days prior to your surgery. i am pretty certain that you will get a script for hydro or some other pain med after your surgery. if you are still in pain after your rx runs out i am sure your doctor will refill.

please forgive me for asking.... but what else would you need hydrocodone for if not for a "long term physical condition" (iow chronic pain)? are you afraid that your rx will run out before your pain after the surgery? or that you might be handed some bogus pain killer as such, i.e. darvocets like jeannelynn was? (jeanne, it is an outrage that you were treated in that fashion... i have a theory about that, i've seen [censored] like that happen before!)

is there any way you can ask your doctor about what they normally give for post-operative pain from a vasectomy? and if whatever you get is either ineffective or runs out, go to the ER. they usually take care of acute pain whereas chronic pain sufferers struggle to live life in adequate comfort as we cannot go to the er all the time.

Hi,

As others mentioned, it depends on the OP; some are stricter than others.

However, as a general rule of thumb, I think what most OPs are looking for is something that establishes you as having a chronic pain problem.

A vasectomy would be acute pain, whereas, it should go away shortly following surgery or treatment.

As I've heard others say, if you have a legitimate, chronic pain condition, it is not very difficult to receive the services of an OP, providing you have some records that document said problem - which would only be logical, because if you do suffer from a chronic pain condition that requires the use of moderately heavy painkillers, chances are you've already seen a real Dr. about it (and therefore have records).

I would say the majority of the people using OPs do so because of undermedication - not treatment for a new condition.

Hope this helps,

indecline
