Are all ativan 2 mg tablets scored bars or do they come in different shapes depending on brand/generic/etc? I currently use the 1 mg pills and thought it might be cheaper to buy the 2 mg and cut them in half. Thanks!
Depends on the manufacturer -- not all pills look alike (i.e. generic lorazepam (Ativan) from one manufacturer can look completely different from the same dose of generic lorazepam from another company). Best advice is don't go by the pill itself -- read labels and use trusted, reliable pharmacies so you know what you're taking is genuine.
My first post was a little confusing. I understand they wouldn't all be the same "look", but I was wondering if they were all scored. I would only purchase from a trusted pharmacy, but a lot don't post pictures of their pills before I purchase. I'm not looking to decide whether what I have is/isn't ativan... just deciding whether it would be advantageous for me to purchase 2mg and divide in half for use. Thanks for your help!
If you are sure it is real and have no question as to authenticity, there is no reason why you couldn't just split it in half if you only needed 1 mg (from a 2 mg pill). In fact, I have read that cutting benzo pills is a widely-used practice for patients trying to W/D from them.
Just a caution note about lorazepam (Ativan) -- it can cause dependency more quickly than some other benzos (like Valium), although not as bad as Xanax or Klonopin. I'd just be careful about how often and how much Ativan I was taking (it has a short half-life, so its useful "effects" wear off anywhere between 1-4 hours after taking it). Would not recommend repeated doses several times a day, as that will greatly increase the potential for dependency (and benzo W/D's are horrible -- much, much worse than W/D from hydro or moderate-efficacy narcotics).

Thanks for the reply. That's what I was looking for... whether I could cut them in half. The doc prescribed them to me as "1mg up to 3x a day as needed", but the most I've ever taken was 2 on a really bad day. I'm kind of scared of taking them too often because of the horror stories. I use them most of the time to help me relax enough to sleep. Because of my job, there are 2 nights a week I can't take them at all. I would estimate my usage at about 5 mg a week. And I received a call yesterday that I would be able to see a doctor who is affiliated with the clinic who prescribed them in the first place, so I won't have to order them online anyway... so I suppose it is a moot point. However, at the time I posted the original post, it was unsure if I would be able to transfer as a patient to my (new) local clinic and be able to afford doctor fees and monthly medications at US prices. I guess all's well that end's well.
