Cheap medical insurance is a joke. There are some plans on the net that look cheap until you read the fine print about what they "don't" pay for.

Personally, I dropped total health coverage a year ago and now carry a policy that covers only hospitalization, specialists and tests over and above routine items that my primary doctor might order like CT, MRI etc.

I pay for all my routine health care and normal meds like blood pressure stuff, pain etc. This was expensive at first but my doctor gives me a break on the office call charge. It has also caused me to be a little more careful and pay closer attention to my own health. Having a full coverage plan with a 20 or 30 dollar co-pay was a luxury and I tended to think less about health because it was just a small co-pay.

Good luck trying to find affordable coverage. Until things change within our healthcare system the costs will keep going up. Any change that does happen won't be in our lifetime.

CHEAP health insurance, or good health insurance??? Lilstraw, I see you're in Calif, where Blue Cross and Blue Shield are seperate companies. Both are good (don't do any HMO plan though), take the highest deductible they offer. Office visits are still a co-pay, drugs covered after a deductible, and everything else gets applied to your deductible. Insurance is for the big stuff anyway, so if you end up with something serious, or hospitalized, you'll hit the deductible within the first 30 min of being hospitalized. Rarely do people hit their deductible (be it $500 or $2500), so may as well save the monthly premium $ and go for the big deductible.

And don't go with Kaiser.

Let me look that up in my dictionary... hmmmmm says "See Oxymoron" ....

Main Entry:oxymoron
Function:noun
Etymology:Late Greek oxym*ron, from neuter of oxym*ros pointedly foolish, from Greek oxys sharp, keen + m*ros foolish
Date:1657

: a combination of contradictory or incongruous words (as cruel kindness); broadly : something (as a concept) that is made up of contradictory or incongrous elements

You get what you pay for! Cheap health insurance is cheap cuz it covers NADA you need done! Remember you can set up a medical savings account, pretax dollars where they take the money before taxes each paycheck & bank it for you...you use it to pay medical bills, and best of all, as along as all your medical expenses add up to 7% of your total annual adjusted income for the year you get a tax break on that too...that may be a beter option for you...don't wast your money getting caught up into onw of these we take only $300 a month from you & cover nothing you'll ever need to have done! I see this all the time & i'm in the industry....it sucks!!!!!!
