going from suboxone taper to suboxone maintenance
      #210434 - 12/27/04 07:56 PM

I know a few of you have some suboxone experience. For those who recently started it, how is it going? Did you do it for withdrawal purposes or maintenance? For those who are unfamiliar, suboxone is very effective if you are in need of a painless withdrawal from pain meds. I planned to do a 2-week taper, but had some difficulty going from 4 mg to 2 mg.....so doc let me stick at 4 mg an extra week (current doc only does tapers, not maintenance). I feel good on the 4 mg suboxone and feel no need for the pain meds. I got to the point where I was taking too many norcos (15 - 20 a day without doc approval) and getting broke and sick (probably from too much acetemenophine). I also realized that I was not really taking them so much for the pain (though I do have a herniated disc in my lower back....currently asymptomatic). Anyhow, I found a local doc who will do a sub maintenance program. Has anyone ever heard of this? Suboxone can be used to treat pain as well, but not sure of the dosage needed. I'm pretty comfortable on 4 mg per day and hope to be able to stay there for awhile before having to make a decision to come off it completely. I was getting very nervous about the 2-week taper period and this makes me feel so much better. I love the way the hydro made me feel....I had energy and was pretty happy on it. Not high anymore, but happier WITH hydro than without it. Suboxone does not make me high, but gives me a general "good" feeling and seems to take care of any depressive symptoms as well. Anxious to hear of others experience with this med. BTW, it can only be prescribed by certain docs found on www.suboxone.com thanks, juliah

I have found that with 7 - .8 mg suboxones you can come down from most any opiate dependency over the course of a week.
