Im trying to research more on Fibromyalgia since I just found out (I think) that I may have it. I had my hands checked and xrayed due to carpal tunnell that has been getting worse. I also complained of achyness in my shoulders and back and legs, nothing severe. He just blurted its fibromyalgia but offered no further information. I was actually blaming the aches and pains on getting a little older and doing too much. He sent me off with a script for 800mg Motrin and said to drink plenty of water. Wouldnt there be other tests needed to confirm it and wouldnt a muscle relaxer be better than Motrin. Anyone who suffers from this please post your experience, and in the meantime, I'll do my own medical research on the condition, and post back my finds. Thanks everyone

There are a number of people here on this side as well as the VIP side that post about FMS. It won't kill ya, but def will make you about as miserable as you can be.
There is a fabulous thread on the VIP side about fibro.
Other than the support of the VIPer's...there are a lot of websites devoted to Fibromyalgia as well as Chronic Myofasical disease. These two frequent overlap, and sometimes Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Do a google, and see what you can find out, most everyone has their favorites.
As you can probably gather, this is just the beginning of a long road, whichever diagnosis you have. Be careful and don't buy into everything you see and hear of, in the quest for relief.
take care

Really sorry to hear you were told you have fibromyalgia as it is a frustrating disorder that still baffles the medical profession to a great degree.

Blurting out: "its fibromyalgia" and then sending you packing with a script for Motrin is, IMHO, not really a diagnosis, but more like a dismissive guess.
Fibromyalgia is frustrating to many doctors since there is no one simple test that will diagnose it and no "cure". Unfortunately, there are still doctors out there who use the term "fibromyalgia" as a waste-basket diagnosis for all unexplained aches and pains, or who dismiss it as a psychiatric issue caused by "depression". These aren't the type of doctors you want to have treating you.
Because fibromyalgia is a diagnosis of exclusion, your physician usually orders blood tests to rule out more serious auto-immune disorders. During your visit with your doctor, you should also have had what is called a "tender point" exam . This involves the doctor pressing on specific areas of your body which usually are exceptionally tender to the touch in those of us with fibro.
As Trixxie mentioned, there is a great support thread on fibromyalgia going on over at the VIP section of DB.
You've indicated you are interested in researching this disorder which is great. We all have our favorite research resources, as Trixxie stated. I began mine at the public library and also used the online Immune Support Library (BTW, you are welcome to PM me for more information on helpful books and sites).
Best wishes in your search for answers! It is an ongoing pursuit but with the support of others and an open-minded (but skeptical) outlook, you should be able to find what works best for you.

i am wondering if any of you guys out there with Fibro have real bad pain in the kness and such?? i was diagnoised about 5 months ago with this terrible thing and it seems like every week something new starts to hurt along with the other pain i am having with the fibro and it seems like the meds that my PM doc is giving me is not touching it at all..i am taking 60mg Avinza 2 times a day, percs 10/325 4 times a day and klopoin 3 times a day...and since the weather is getting much colder the pain is much more intense....any suggestions on what i can try to do to decrease this pain??? i am really confused about this knee pain, it started about 4 days ago and getting worse to where i hate to walk on my left leg....also if anyone out there has any suggestions on some different meds that may work please feel free to either post or PM me because i have no clue on what to ask for. My PM doc is wonderful and gives me what i ask her for if she feels it may help so any suggestions would be great! TIA

Do alot of research about doctors in the area, see if there are any that specialize in fibro. I learned this the hard way. I've had it for more then 6 years, and have yet to find out of the dozen or so doctors i've seen any that can provide proper treatment. As time goes on the pain will become more and more unbearable, and what your going to need is a strong long lasting pain killer like oxy's or fentayl patch, as well as a good breakthru med like percocet. And when I tell you this I'm very seroius, I live with a pain level of 7-10 (on a scale of 1-10) all day every day. most days I wish I could just give up. And the real bitc*h here is that I still can't get the meds I need. I live in Florida, and the doctors are afraid that there going to lose there lic. The reason I'm sharing this with you, is not to scare you but to get you the headstart I never had. Research, find the specialist, go to Mayo clinic if you have to, but don't wait like I did.
