Perduretas C. question
      #209641 - 12/22/04 08:47 PM

Hi, New to the board and hello too all! I'm trying to find information on Perduretas C. (codeine phophate). I have found it takes care of the pain and discomfort I have from a cancer surgery I had many years ago. Without going into a long story it was the only med. I could find with out a Dr's help(no script). My Dr. would prefer I have more surgery with no gaurantee, something I'm not up too at this point. I was wondering if taking this med. one 2x a day is harmful long term? I was wondering about liver and or kidney damage?
I can only find information on blended meds like Tylenol 3.
Thanks in advance. Fritos

Perduretas are 50mg codeine in a wax-binder, time-release pill. Unless you're allergic to codeine (many people are), about the only long-term effect you'll experience is the same as with any opiate/opioid analgesic: increased tolerance. The longer you take them, the less effective they become and the more you need to take.

But, they're much safer to take long-term than the combo meds that contain APAP, ibuprofen or aspirin.

I've found that it takes about 240mg instant release codeine to equal the analgesia of two 10/325 hydrocodone/APAP tablets. One Perdureta twice a day is a very low dose of narcotic.

I am NOT a doctor and YMMV.

The main problem you'll have with Perduretas, if you live in the U.S., is FINDING them at an affordable price. Biotran has them for a good price, but they don't ship to my state due to a multitude of seizures.

I have read that there is a 400mg. celing with codine. If you take any more than that, you're wasting it. I have found Perds to be a great reliver for mild to moderate pain. No apap makes it a little easier on the body. I usually crush them up and mix them with oj. That bypasses the time-released quality and makes them work faster.
Therion is right. The only problem you will have is actually finding them! I have gotten them from Biotran but I have found him to be a bit flighty.
Hope this helps!

Just wanted to add that 'Losepain.com' offers Perds and they are very reliable. They accept cc and it comes in
the mail (no signing required) in about 9 days. Hope this helps.

I appreciate the input on my question. I feel a little better knowing the cure (or relief) isnt causing secondary issues. I try to only use them on bad days but lately 1 twice a day has been what I can get by on . I found them at ultimatepharma.com with no hassles (so far). Happy holidays and thank-you fritos
