Do they make or can they produce pure hydrocodone with no APAP? I'm sure they could compound it, but then it would be sch II right? So, there would be no chance of getting say 10/0s or 15/0s from an OP? Does any US pharmaceutical company make these in tablet form?
I think hydro without the APAP would be an excellent drug for those pain patients who have been on it awhile and have a higher tolerance. Furthermore, if they could make like a hydrocontin - that would be awesome! I thought I'd heard talk of that on the board in the past.
Anyway, it was just a thought. The 10/80s work for me as well as the 10/500s ever did, so I thought why not just get rid of the APAP altoghether. It doesn't seem to offer anything except hepatoxicity. I'm sure hydro is somewhat hepatoxic too. Does anyone know about this - how it compares to APAP. Is it much less hepatoxic or is it just less of a concern because there is much less of it in the pills than APAP (10 mg compared to 500 mg, etc.)?
Any feedback or comments would be appreciated.
Peace,
Terrence

they can't make hydro with no apap! some places like ermeds do compounds but the least amount of hydro i am unsure of. I am sure someone will jump in here that knows exactly. 60mg of apap maybe? anyway the apap is the hepatoxic ingrediant and without it no worry about liver damage. Hydro on its own does no damage to your liver.

Of course they CAN make hydro with no APAP - it just may not be legal. All they have to do is leave out the APAP when they're mixing up a batch of 15/80s. It is possible - my question was more along the lines of 'can you get a pure hydro compound prescribed to you?' or 'do they make pure hydro tabs?'.
I've read somewhere that pure hydrocodone tablets (2 mg) were available in other countries, so I'm just curious about pure hydrocodone products over here in the good 'ol USA.
Peace,
Terrence

Just my $.02 worth but I think if you remove the APAP it would change the schedule and you would play HE-double hockey sticks..getting it online or anywhere else for that matter..I do believe it would put it right op there with OXY & Morphine.. Just guessing here but just felt like chiming in.. Take care, have a safe & Happy Holiday, Yadayada

There are two- ERMEDS and CYBERSCRIPTS- both are ROP's.

I believe Tussionex contains a time release version of hydrocodone along with a antihistamine and it does not have APAP. However, it's never prescribed for pain conditions unrelated to a cough as far as I know.
FWIW, there is also pure hydrocodone in a 5 mg format used for dogs mixed along with something else to inhibit it's misuse.

Excuse my ongoing ignorance, but can one of you chemists and/or experts please explain this codeine with aceto vs. Hydrocodone to me again. Never been an expert and too lazy to research on my own. Thanks.

hydrocodone without APAP goes up one higher controlled schedule level to II. this is because it lacks liver poison

Tone , that's sick huh ? You'd think it would be the opposite but it seems we live in an opposite world, right is wrong, good is bad .. polite is rude .. sorry too early on christmas morning to think but just wanted to add my 2 bits. I started the 15/80 's from ERMEDS , great doc great company , i Love them the doc was so helpful and I inquired about the lower apap b/c of the long term pain management i've been and will be on for probably the rest of my life unless they find a cure for MS and OA , but unless that happens , didn't want to add needing a new liver to my list of woes , since , in this world, having taken pain meds for so long , even though they are for legitimate pain and a very real illness, I'd probably be put on the bottom of the transplant list being a 'druggie' and all .. i wouldn't doubt it ... anyway I LOVE the 15/80's , I love that if i DO feel the need for extra liver poisoning I can take a tylenol or two and then it's more of the hydro and i can adjust the apap if i want to. They work just fine without having to do that so I have NO CLUE why they don't 'allow ' this or prescribe it normally, esp to long term pain patients, my 'reg' doc , not the MS one I left behind in NY when I had insurance, but this one down here in the land of odd , had me on long term vioxx and threw in some 10/650's once in awhile if I was 'good ' i suppose.. I asked for lower apap since I'd taken it so long and he said why? I said first of all they are VERY hard to swallow , second I think i'm killing my liver , he brushed it off and told me to continue to take the vioxx AFTER the recall, gave me goodie bags full of samples .. well i kept them just to prove what an idiot he is , then started using op's , which i find makes alot more sense than paying the above doc the same cost as a consult having no insurance and getting meds that are not only recalled, but 'stronger ones' that aren't enough of one thing and too much of something very damaging something is very wrong with that picture so I feel no guilt at all and feel that record op's do such a wonderful service to those of us in pain with no insurance and very uncaring docs. I explained this situation to doc at er meds and he agreed there was an option and 15/80's are so far helping the pain and I feel so much better about taking them. They are IMHO one of the best OP's out there for care, customer service and the prices aren't bad at all. I thought it would be alot more for the compounds but they are just about the same as for 10/500's and they can prescribe 120 , and offer 2 refills. So look into it , there is a big differnce btwn codeine and hydrocodone. forgot exactly what it is but it's not the same..
Good luck ! Merry Christmas !!

Been wondering for a while, this seemed like a good thread to ask:
Why can't they at least mix the hydro w/ aspirin, then? Used to be it was easy to get an ASA-codeine mix...Empirin 3 I think it was; now even that doesn't seem to be around. Aspirin's a better anti-inflammatory, too. Seems stomach ulcers (which aren't that common a side effect anyway) are a better risk than major liver damage.
What do I know, I'm just a dumb patient...bah, humbug, indeed!

I have seen them, they are much smaller but the same shape, Malinkdrodt makes a generic hydrocodone bit. pill.
