Nuevo Loredo
      #195858 - 10/23/04 05:09 PM

I haven't driven down to Loredo in years. Last time the limit of on the number of scheduled drugs like Valium had been suddenly capped to 50 pills total by US Customs. I did not purchase any non-scheduled drugs at the time.

I'm going to drive down to do some sightseeing and don't intend to purchase any drugs that are scheduled in the US in NV. Could any fellow Texan tell me if there's a cap on the amount of non-scheduled drugs that can be brought back across the border from Nuevo Loredo? Does just the standard 90 days' worth rule apply? It used to be that if the drug wasn't scheduled and you didn't bring over entire shopping bags full of a single drug, Customs just let you walk back into US instructing you to pay tax on the bottle of liquor at the little booth just beyond. Is that still the case?

Well, I'll answer my own question. Had some extra time, decided to drive down to Mc Allen instead. I was permitted to bring a reasonable amount across the border. I brought back two months' supply of a number of non-scheduled meds. Cipro is NOT permitted. The US Border Patrol/Customs took forever to look over my meds. I think the guy was just trying to fill in time (it was slow at the walk across crossing and there were lots of agents) or couldn't quite firgure out what I had purchased.

Glad you chose somewhere besides Nuevo Laredo...it is one of the WORST places to cross. Both the authorities in the city and coming back is not worth the pain and risk. Next time try Progreso. You won't be disappointed.

Opie is correct. I know several people busted in Nuevo Larado. I was almost detained there myself once over liquor purchases which was really a gag but I found it not funny. They busted this one guy for possessing a shotgun shell for five years!! He was hunting in the area and decided to go eat there. What was really sad was that he just retired and it used all his savings just to get him out. Now he has to go back to work. I avoid NL like the plague. I really discourage anyone from buying meds over the border. Mexican jails are not fun. Yeah some folks get away with it but what if you don't? Something to chew on.

Ah, yes. Progresso. I remember many years ago going there. It took me back 20 years. I crossed the border and there were no taxi drivers wanting to take me to the pharmacy, take me to see the donkey, take me to see the "girls". Reynosa was a lot more laid back then Loredo has ever been.

Actually, I've had my fill of Mexico for a while. My meds were NOT cheap. I'll order from IOPs from now on. Then again, I just wanted to go to Mexico, not buy anything.

I believe my visit was in 82? I won't go back. I had to walk across the border too and they said since I had no id I was Mexican and I can't cross. They were messing with me. I started crying I can't speak Spanish what do I do? It is funny now.

I only live an hour from Progreso so it's not hard for me to go.

I love it. It's so peaceful compared to the other cities.
I usually bring Valium back without a problem. If I bring ketamine or rohypnol, I just smuggle them in my socks and wear baggy pants.
