Best courier service (FedEx, UPS, DHL etc) for IOP delivery?
      #208600 - 12/18/04 03:39 AM

Hi,

I am ordering from IOPs who offer express delivery through FedEx, UPS, DHL or USPS (they do this?) Which do you think would be the most reliable option? I mean, in terms of the chances of seizure? Thanks.

I realize there are a lot of variables here, but I'm clueless. Any advice appreciated.

it depends totally where you are located as ups is the laziest when they are in larger cities and have huge orders. dhl right now is cracking down hard since they are trying to push into the market with the big two. when i worked for fed ex... if it was urgent or next day, it was never checked. so i am not sure for you, again it would depend on your location and the type of delivery.

Most of the international shipping services as you mentioned have to or declare the contents of the package so if it's something that could be seized it will be, usually, I know it did for me once, the co. used either ups or dhl either way it never made it but the love letter did. Best IOP option is USPS with no signature. Good luck!!!

Personally I stay away from them completely. They are private companies which adhere only to company policies, not federal laws. Those laws protect you from things like packages being opened once through customs, packages being delivered to anyone who signs for them (as opposed to USPS, which only delivers to PO boxes or mailboxes) and prevents close tracking procedures and signature confirmation which can incriminate you in case of investigation (certain amounts of substances being shipped through the system, regardless of how obtained, can automatically be considered drug trafficking depending on Schedule and amount of substance).

(I read the following in an editorial in the Boston Globe, so feel free to be as wary of it's facts as I have been, but nonetheless err on the side of caution in your practices). These companies employ an internal investigative department (usually trained, non-departmental police officers) for handling suspicious packages and alerting proper governmental authorities of the same, who have the right to, essentially, open any package they dag well please for whatever probable cause they can think of and be in no violation of federal postal regulations. Also, unlike US Customs, they do have the time and manpower to set up stings on people using their system to ship drugs in order to prosecute them and eliminate further abuses of their service. Basically, they are the renegade postmen who abide by no real rules and decide on a coin flip whether to deliver or search a rattling package. (keep in mind that almost all legitimate US Pharmacies ship using one of these couriers, so the likelihood of your delivery being interfered with if it's shipped from within the US is very small, but again, err on the side of caution, especially if you are receiving from another country, to avoid a red flag)

Anyway, hope this opinion/FAQ was helpful and wasn't just a lot of breaking wind. Of course, if I'm wrong about any of these things, I open the forum up to the resident pundits for clarification.

Chris

P.S.- I guess, then, that my answer would be that hibbs is absolutely correct, the safest is the slowest. USPS with no signature (which rules out USPS Express or Priority), but if not possible, USPS would be recommended.

I've never had a problem with any of them. I signed some sort of "wavier of signature" card at the FedEx hub and now they leave the packages on my (enclosed) front porch inside the newspaper box and never bother me for a signature.
