I just attended a company Xmas party (SO's office) when I discovered the gentleman I was chatting with works for UPS, has for 18 years. He doesn't drive a regular truck, he's an overnight shipping driver. Due to reading some of the worried posts on this forum, I decided to get some info under guise of small talk. Please note this is one worker's story FWIW.
I asked if there were any security beef-ups since 9/11, he basically said "no", generally they trust the contractor who does the shippping to verify the security of the package.
Since we live close to the Mexican border, I asked if any LE agencies had asked their help in detecting/preventing shipping illegal drugs via UPS. His reply was there were a few dog searches, but basically there is little or no involvement. He says his place passes 30,000 packages a day, they can't or don't worry about what is in every one.
This is to calm down those folks who think that UPS or the Fedex guy or mailman is "on to" them...these folks are basically overworked, just doing their job and to the greatest probability not concerned in the slightest with you or your package. Be nice and friendly.
lincoona, I used be a UPS driver some years back and the only times people were arrested was when a parcel had broken open by chance , 1 pound of smoke. You ought to see how those parcels get knocked around - it's no wonder . BTW : why don't you have your orders sent by USPS ? Good luck ..................
