I know this might sound like a crazy question...but has anyone else noticed their eyes a little bloodshot from hydro? I never noticed it before. But I think it might be from the meds. I've tried visine but all it really does is make my eyes dry.
I recently read that hiccups are a side effect of hydro. Since I get them frequently I was really surprised to hear there was a corolation. I'm wondering if there are other side effects other than the ones noted on the warning label.

i think that most opiates tend to cause hiccups since it effects the respiratory system...i noticed that when i first started taking opiates that i would get hiccups for hours! but the longer i stayed on the opiates the hiccups no longer came.

When I first started taking hydro my eyes used to get red (sometimes it would be hard to tell if it was the hydro per se as sometimes I'll stay up all night and beyond which also will make the eyes red). Anyway, after a while the redness went away on it's own. However, when I run out of hydro and go into withdrawal, my eyes will again turn red. Believe it or not, if I start taking hydro again, my eyes will turn white as a sheet. I cannot fathom how this is possible but it happens. With regard to hiccups, during withdrawal my brain gets confused and merges sneezing and hiccups together. I will begin to sneeze and wind up hiccuping. It sounds funnier than hell (Aaaaahhhh... Aaaaahhhh.... HICCUP! Aaaaahhhh HICCUP!) but it could be really dangerous if you think about it.

Spectre, the same thing would happen with my eyes, too. And instead of hiccups with the withdrawl I would get INTENSE sneezing. I mean 5 or 6 hard sneezes in a row every hour or so. What's good about that is when I stopped taking hydro and was in w/d I could tell people that I had a cold or flu and it was very believable.

That's because withdrawl effects the sympathetic nervous system just like a bad flu. Fever, sweats, nausea, vomiting, sneezing, watery eyes, direahea...oh the list is endless *lol*
The thing that bugs me now is the red eye thing. I will look for this opocon. Thank you. If anyone else has reccommendations I'd be happy to hear them. You can also PM me if you like.

you can look up opiate withdrawl syptoms and you'll see that a lot of people coming off opiates suffer from sneezing, watery eyes, noturnal emmissions(hee hee, but that happens later on in w/d) aches and pains, nightmares, the feeling like you gotta pee a lot, fluish. i don't know about you guys, but cigarettes tend to taste disgusting, and my olfactory senses are like a gazillion times more sensitive. if someone is cooking i could very well vomit... yuck!

Wow, this just amazed me to see this post!!! I always have the "red eye" problem every time I am on Hydo. I just thought it was me so its really great to hear that others have the same problem. When ever someone asked about my "red eyes" I would respond by saying that my contacts are bothering me.......for those who just don't need to know!

Well, before I read this I thought it was my contacts bothering me. Now that I think about it, I am always very thirsty 30 minutes or so after taking hydro. So if it causes some sort of dehydration, your eyes would be dry, thus red, also making it worse in contact users.

My guess on the red eye problem would be a reduction in the production of tears to adequately lubricate the eyes--much as opioids tend to reduce the production of saliva.
As for the hiccups going away or becoming less frequent after time (while on opioids)...my experience contradicts that theory. I've been on either morphine or methadone for over a decade straight without more than a few days passing when I didn't have one or the other. My hiccups are just as bad as ever and an odd observation about them...if I don't manage to get rid of them within the first few "hics", it is VERY difficult to rid myself of them at all. They will go on for hours if I can't get them under control and will eventually give me a substantial headache.
Oh the joys of opioid therapy!

A lot of meds and other causes other than meds could cause your eyes to become red and/or glassy. When you get wet (cry) e.g., you'll display eyes like that ... lol

I take hydro and mscontin and I always get that too, but I think it is cause it makes your blood pressure higher. And I also notice that when it is getting close to my dose time or I go past the dose time, I also will start yawning.....Anyone else???? But I won't be sleepy, and as soon as it gets into my system, I stop yawning. Weird.

I believe it is the intracranial pressure that's go higher, instead of the blood pressure
